iOS 26 is just around the corner and brings some exciting changes to your iPhone. The new design, called Liquid Glass, is particularly eye-catching. Apple has also made improvements to the standard apps and system features. But when exactly will the update arrive? Here's all the information.
Apple has already introduced iOS 26. Developers already have access to the new version and can gain initial experience. For all other users, the question remains, as every year: When will the update be available? Previous releases provide a clear indication of when you can expect iOS 26. There will also be a public beta, which will launch much sooner.
When will iOS 26 be officially released?
Apple has confirmed that iOS 26 will be released in fall 2025. A specific date hasn't been announced yet, but looking at the past few years, the release date can be narrowed down pretty accurately. Here are the last three release dates:
- iOS 18 was released on September 16, 2024
- iOS 17 arrived on September 18, 2023
- iOS 16 was released on September 12, 2022
All three updates rolled out within a week of the annual iPhone event. These events typically take place in the first half of September. In 2024, the event was on September 9, in 2023 on September 12, and in 2022 on September 7. This pattern has been consistent for years, so it's very likely that iOS 26 will be released in mid-September 2025. Presumably, it will be right after the iPhone 17 event, around September 15. You can expect the official release of iOS 26 on that day or a few days after, provided your iPhone is supported.

iOS 26 in public beta: Testing possible from July
Those who want to try out the update earlier will have the opportunity to do so in July 2025. As usual, Apple will provide a public beta version. Anyone who registers at beta.apple.com can install it. The beta contains all the major new features, including the new Liquid Glass design, revised messaging functions, and other system improvements. However, please be aware that beta versions can contain bugs. You may experience performance issues or crashes because the software is not yet fully optimized. Nevertheless, the beta is worth it if you want to test it early and are willing to make small compromises. Apple uses the feedback from the public beta to improve the final version. When you can install iOS 26
iOS 26 is expected to be released in mid-September 2025. The public beta will launch in July. If you want to try out new features right away, you can register for free then.
