WWDC 2026 has been officially announced and provides a clear outlook on the next steps in the Apple ecosystem. The annual developer conference is one of the most important events in the industry, as Apple traditionally presents its upcoming software releases here and sets the direction for the entire year.
Even in 2026, Apple remains true to its established concept. WWDC will take place primarily online and will be free for developers worldwide. At the same time, the event will be complemented by an exclusive in-person event, giving selected participants more direct access to Apple and its technologies.
This allows WWDC 2026 to combine global reach with targeted on-site experiences, remaining relevant for both beginners and experienced developers.
Date and schedule of WWDC 2026
WWDC 2026 will take place from June 8th to 12th, 2026, and marks the 37th edition of the Worldwide Developers Conference. As usual, the event begins with the central keynote address on the first day. This starts at 10:00 AM Pacific Time (7:00 PM CEST) on June 8th and is the main event of the entire week.
In this presentation, Apple introduces the upcoming software generations and provides a first overview of new features, design changes, and technical developments.
New operating systems in focus
The focus of WWDC 2026 will be on the new versions of Apple's operating systems. iOS 27, iPadOS 27, macOS 27, tvOS 27, watchOS 27, and visionOS 27 will be presented.
These updates are crucial for developers, as they create new interfaces, tools, and opportunities to further develop apps or implement entirely new features. The specific details will be explored in greater depth during individual sessions and workshops throughout the conference.
Online format and content
WWDC 2026 is once again designed as a predominantly digital event. Developers from all over the world can participate for free and will receive access to a comprehensive program.
In addition to the live broadcast of the keynote, Apple offers numerous technical sessions and workshops. These sessions demonstrate in detail how to integrate new features into apps and which best practices are relevant in the process.
The content will be provided via the Apple Developer app, the Apple Developer website, and additionally via YouTube. This ensures that the conference can be followed regardless of location.
In-person event at Apple Park
In addition to its online offerings, Apple will host an exclusive event on June 8, 2026, at the Apple Park Campus in Cupertino, California. This in-person event is limited to a certain number of attendees.
On-site attendance allows participants to watch the keynote and the State of the Union presentation together. Additionally, attendees can speak directly with Apple employees and tour the campus. This part of WWDC thus offers a significantly more personal experience than the online format.
Application and participation
Participation in the event at Apple Park is not open to the public but requires an application. Members of the Apple Developer Program, participants of the Apple Entrepreneur Camp, past winners of the Swift Student Challenge, and members of the Apple Developer Enterprise Program are eligible to apply.
Selection will be made by lottery. Applications will be accepted until 11:59 PM Pacific Time on March 30, 2026.
Swift Student Challenge
Another component surrounding WWDC 2026 is the Swift Student Challenge. Apple already accepted applications in February, and the winners are expected to be announced shortly.
Particularly outstanding participants, who are recognized as "Distinguished Winners," receive an invitation to a multi-day stay in Cupertino. This provides Apple with additional incentives for up-and-coming developers.
Further information
Apple plans to release further details about WWDC 2026 in early June. Updates will be provided as usual via the Apple Developer app and the Apple Developer website.
This includes, among other things, more detailed information about individual sessions, new technologies and participating developers.
WWDC 2026 as a key date for developers
WWDC 2026 remains a key event for the developer community and for anyone interested in Apple's software strategy. With new operating systems, a comprehensive online offering, and a complementary in-person event, Apple is relying on a proven format.
The conference not only provides initial insights into upcoming features, but also concrete tools and guidance that will shape developments in the Apple ecosystem throughout the rest of the year. (Image: Apple)
