Apple March 2026 Announcements: Focus on New Chips

Apple is heading into another announcement week, which is already generating a lot of speculation. While new designs are often expected, current information points in a different direction. This time, the focus is expected to be primarily on chip updates. This means: technical advancements inside the device rather than visible changes to the casing.

Earlier this month, Apple invited members of the media to an "Apple Experience." The event will take place on Wednesday, March 4, at 9:00 a.m. Eastern Time (3:00 p.m. CET) in New York, London, and Shanghai. Additionally, Tim Cook announced a "big week" with several announcements starting on Monday.

According to the well-known Weibo leaker Fixed Focus Digital, the upcoming series of announcements will focus less on redesigned devices. Instead, the emphasis will be on existing products with fundamental chip upgrades.

Focus on internal upgrades rather than new design

According to current information, Apple is primarily planning performance updates for several product lines. Major design changes or new form factors are not expected. The devices expected to be introduced or updated soon include:

  • iPhone 17e, the successor to the iPhone 16e
  • New entry-level iPad
  • iPad Air
  • MacBook Air with M5 chip
  • MacBook Pro with M5 Pro and M5 Max
  • Apple TV
  • HomePod

According to the leak, these products will receive little more than chip updates. Specifically, this means improved processors, presumably greater efficiency and higher performance, but no fundamental visual changes.

Apple is pursuing a strategy that has been evident in recent years. Following the switch to its own chips, the focus is increasingly on continuously improving performance within existing designs.

The potentially most significant new device: An affordable MacBook

In addition to chip upgrades for existing devices, a new, affordable MacBook is also expected. This model is considered the most interesting new product of the coming years.

The planned technical basis is particularly noteworthy. The device is expected to be equipped with an A-series chip, a processor currently used in iPhones. This would clearly differentiate it from existing Mac models with M-series chips. Details known so far include:

  • A 12.9-inch LCD display
  • A selection of striking color options
  • Probably the reuse of components from existing devices

Little is currently known about the exact design. However, the assumption that existing components are being used suggests that Apple wants to reduce development costs and position the device attractively in terms of price.

Major design changes will be implemented later in the year

Those waiting for completely new designs will likely have to be patient. Several devices with fundamentally new concepts are expected later this year. However, most of these are not expected to be released until the second half of the year. These include:

  • The first foldable iPhone
  • A new smart home hub product
  • A MacBook Pro M6 series

These products are considered the year's major innovations. In comparison, the announcements now expected seem more like a technical refresh of the existing portfolio.

Apple prioritizes performance over new design

The upcoming announcements reveal a clear strategy. Apple is focusing on chip updates and performance improvements in the short term, not on new designs. Increased performance and efficiency are paramount, while visual changes are taking a back seat.

While major innovations are planned, they are apparently scheduled for a later date. This means the upcoming announcement week will primarily focus on technical advancements within familiar product lines. (Image: Shutterstock / Md Tarek ali)
