Apple is facing an unusually early and intensive hardware launch in early 2026. Although no new devices are expected for the remainder of 2025, several reports indicate that as many as four products could be released as early as January or at the latest in the first quarter of 2026. The focus is on new chips, more affordable entry-level models, and a clear expansion of the existing portfolio.
Rumors about new Apple devices are nothing new, but the indications for the beginning of 2026 paint a remarkably consistent picture. Several product lines are expected to be updated simultaneously. These include premium models like the MacBook Pro and more affordable devices like a new entry-level MacBook and the iPhone 17e. The anticipated updates suggest that Apple is broadening its product range without neglecting its high-end offerings. The interplay of new chips, internal improvements, and potentially lower prices could define the start of 2026.
MacBook Pro 14-inch and 16-inch with M5 Pro and M5 Max
Apple introduced the M5 chip in three products this fall: the 14-inch MacBook Pro, the iPad Pro, and the Vision Pro. The more powerful M5 Pro and M5 Max versions are still missing. Now, two new MacBook Pro models, one 14-inch and one 16-inch, are expected to be released in early 2026. Reports suggest these devices will be equipped with the new M5 Pro and M5 Max chips. This would align with Apple's previous release schedule. The M2 Pro and M2 Max models were already unveiled in January 2023, so a similar timeline for the M5 series seems realistic. The new chips are expected to deliver increased performance for multi-core tasks, graphics projects, and AI-powered processes.
12.9-inch MacBook as a new budget model
Analysts have been calling for a more affordable MacBook option in Apple's lineup for years, to better compete with Chromebooks and inexpensive Windows devices. Apple could finally fulfill this wish in early 2026. Reports indicate that a 12.9-inch MacBook is in development, powered by an A18 Pro chip. This chip, also found in the iPhone series, is known for its high efficiency and modern performance. The device is expected to be available in several colors. The anticipated price is particularly noteworthy. At $599 or $699, it would be the most affordable MacBook in a long time. Analyst Jeff Pu expects a market launch in the middle of the first quarter of 2026, making a late January unveiling likely.
iPad with A18 chip and support for Apple Intelligence
The entry-level iPad received an update with the A16 Bionic chip earlier this year. The next version is expected in early 2026. This model will reportedly be equipped with the A18 chip, making it compatible with Apple's new AI platform, Apple Intelligence. Aside from the chip, no major overhaul is expected. The design is expected to remain the same, with changes focusing on the internal hardware. The result should be a faster, more durable, and better-suited entry-level iPad for modern software.
iPhone 17e as the new generation of the budget series
Apple is working on another model in the e-series, expected to be released in early 2026. Following the iPhone 16e, which replaced the anticipated iPhone SE earlier this year, the iPhone 17e is expected to follow. The new device is rumored to use the same A19 chip as the iPhone 17. A center-stage front camera is also expected. Two possible design changes are also being discussed. Instead of the classic notch, the device could feature a Dynamic Island. The display bezels are also expected to be thinner. As with its predecessor, it will retain a single rear camera. Apple is expected to keep the price at €699 to maintain its position in the budget segment.
Other possible products: M5 MacBook Air, M4 iPad Air and new Mac displays
In addition to the four products whose launch in early 2026 is considered likely, there are indications of further possible releases. These include a MacBook Air with an M5 chip, an iPad Air with an M4 chip, and new Mac displays. The interplay of these devices would fit well with Apple's usual release schedule. The iPad Air has been updated in the past alongside the base iPad. New Mac displays could also be released concurrently with the new MacBook Pro models. The market launch of these additional devices is expected between winter and spring 2026.
Early start to a diverse Apple hardware year
Apple is planning a broad hardware rollout for early 2026, covering many areas of its product range. New MacBook Pro models, an affordable 12.9-inch MacBook, an iPad with an A18 chip, and the iPhone 17e will create a diverse package of performance improvements and new pricing strategies. Potential additions include an M5 MacBook Air or new Mac displays. For Apple, this means an early and strong start to the year and a clear focus on more choice and modernized technology across various price points.
