The potential iPhone Fold is generating new expectations in the smartphone market. Available assessments indicate a device that could be technically sophisticated and significantly more expensive than previous iPhone models. The industry anticipates that foldable smartphones will be among the few true highlights of 2026, which is giving the iPhone Fold particular attention.
Foldable models are becoming a major player, while global demand for traditional smartphones is expected to decline. The planned launch of the iPhone Fold fits perfectly into this phase. The focus is on high-end technology and a concept that Apple hasn't offered before. This report reveals the high expectations regarding price, sales figures, and features.
Price and market forecasts
Current estimates place the price of the iPhone Fold at around $2,399. This figure comes from analyst Arthur Liao of Fubon Research and is at the upper end of previous forecasts. Earlier estimates ranged between $1,800 and $2,500. Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo recently predicted a price between $2,000 and $2,500. Mark Gurman of Bloomberg sees the potential starting price as closer to $2,000.
According to the report, the high price is primarily due to the use of very high-quality components. The display and the hinge are cited as the main cost drivers. Apple is apparently focusing on components that are particularly durable and allow for the most discreet folding edge possible.
Fubon Research expects the final price to be decisive for demand. Nevertheless, the research firm anticipates that Apple could sell approximately 5.4 million units in 2026. In a year when overall smartphone demand could decline, foldable devices would become the strongest bright spot in the market, according to the report.
Technology and camera equipment
In addition to the new form factor, Apple is apparently working on further technical improvements for 2026. The first lens with a variable aperture is planned for the iPhone 18 Pro models. However, the iPhone Fold is not expected to receive this new technology. According to current information, the foldable model will instead be equipped with a dual camera consisting of wide-angle and ultra-wide-angle lenses. Two front-facing cameras are also rumored.
This combination suggests a rather functional camera concept, designed to work flexibly in both folded and unfolded states. However, reports offer no indication that Apple is aiming for maximum Pro image quality with the Fold. Rather, the focus appears to be on adapting to the new format.
The iPhone Fold as a central theme in the smartphone year 2026
The iPhone Fold is characterized by its high price, sophisticated components, and clear positioning in the premium segment. Analysts see foldable smartphones as the most important driving force for 2026, and Apple could play a decisive role in this segment with the Fold. The projected sales figures and technical details indicate a device that will generate a lot of attention and could significantly change the foldable smartphone market.
