Your Apple account is your gateway to all your Apple services—from iCloud to the App Store to your devices. If you forget your password, it can quickly become frustrating. Fortunately, there are several ways you can reset your password and regain access to your account.
You don't need to be a tech pro to reset your Apple account password. It's important that you know what options are available and how to use them correctly. Whether you're using your iPhone, Mac, or even a web browser, you'll find all the steps you need to know here.
Reset password using an Apple device
If you're already signed in to your account on an iPhone, iPad, Mac, or Apple Vision Pro, you can change your password directly from Settings. This is usually the easiest way.
On iPhone, iPad or Apple Vision Pro:
- Open the settings.
- Tap your name, then Sign In & Security, and then Change Password.
- Follow the instructions on the screen.
On Mac:
- Go to the Apple menu and open System Preferences.
- Click on your name, then on Login & Security and select Change Password.
- Follow the steps on the screen.
Reset password when logging in on a new device
If you're setting up a new Apple device and have forgotten your password, you can do so here:
- On the login screen, you can select Forgot password or don't have an Apple account yet?
After setup:
- On iPhone or iPad: Go to Settings, tap Apple Account, then tap Sign in manually, and then tap Forgot password? Follow the instructions.
- On Mac: Open System Preferences, click Sign In, and then click Forgot Password.
Use the Apple Support app on a borrowed device
If you don't have your own device but have access to your trusted phone number, you can use someone else's device.
- Download the Apple Support app from the App Store if it is not already installed.
- Open the app, go to Support Tools, and tap Reset Password.
- Select Help another person.
- Enter your Apple ID (email or phone number).
- Tap Next and follow the instructions. Don't worry: Your data won't be saved on your device.
Reset password online
You can also reset your password on the web – for example, if you don’t have a device at hand.
- Go to iforgot.apple.com .
- Enter your Apple ID.
- Follow the steps onscreen. If you regain access to a trusted device later, the process may be faster.
