New 15-inch MacBook might not be an Air model

Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo predicts that Apple will introduce a new 15-inch MacBook, but believes that the model will not be another MacBook Air and that it will not be released for a little over a year.

A recent report claimed that Apple could launch a 15-inch MacBook in 2023, with analysts expecting the model to be placed in Apple’s MacBook Air lineup. Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo has report However, on Thursday on Twitter he at least partially refuted this. In his tweet he said:

Predictions for Apple's potential 15" laptop in 2023: 1. Mass production in 4Q23 if all goes according to plan. 2. Although a larger display usually consumes more power, the goal is to use the same 30W power adapter as the MacBook Air. 3. It might not be called the MacBook Air.

While Kuo believes Apple will begin mass production of the new 15-inch MacBook in the fourth quarter of 2023, he is unsure whether it will be called the MacBook Air.

Which chipset will the next MacBook Air use?

Kuo noted that the 15-inch notebook will continue to use the same 30-watt power adapter as the MacBook Air. That suggests the model could continue to be part of Apple's more budget-friendly lineup. Earlier in March, Kuo predicted that Apple will update its entry-level MacBook lineup in the second or third quarter of 2022. He believes the upcoming model will not have a mini-LED display. He also expects it to continue to feature Apple's M1 chip, rather than an "M2" chipset as other sources claim. Previous rumors about the new MacBook Air suggested that the device will have a new form factor that is more similar to current MacBook Pro models than the Air's slanted design. There have also been previous rumors of more color options and an overall thinner and lighter build. (Photo by Patrik Slezak / Bigstockphoto)
