The Apple Vision Pro opens a new dimension in sports streaming. Select Los Angeles Lakers games will be available live and in immersive quality during the upcoming NBA season. Apple is collaborating with the NBA and Blackmagic Design to create a sports experience that goes far beyond traditional TV broadcasts.

With the Apple Vision Pro, Apple is expanding the application spectrum of its mixed reality technology. After initial successes in the entertainment and productivity sectors, it is now entering live sports. A report from TechRadar provides insight into the plans. Vision Pro users will be able to watch Los Angeles Lakers games in Apple Immersive – live or on-demand. This will utilize cutting-edge camera technology to show the action from perspectives previously reserved only for professionals or front-row spectators.

Immersive transmissions with special camera technology

According to TechRadar , Apple plans to install special cameras directly along the courtside and under each basket. These will support the Apple Immersive format, ensuring a particularly realistic experience. They will use a customized version of Blackmagic Design's URSA Cine Immersive Live camera. The camera captures the action in high resolution and with spatial depth to create the impression of being in the center of the court.

The immersive streams will initially be limited to select Lakers games. Further details will follow by the end of November 2025. The first broadcasts in the new format are expected in early 2026.

Availability via NBA app and Spectrum SportsNet

The live games will be available via two platforms: the NBA app and a new app from Charter Communications called Spectrum SportsNet. Both applications will offer access to the immersive content, albeit with certain limitations. An active subscription to one of the two platforms will likely be required.

The games can be watched live or on-demand for up to three days after the game. Some broadcasts will be regionally restricted, meaning they will only be available within certain US states or cities. Outside of these regions, delays or blackouts may occur.

International availability and planned markets

In addition to the US, the NBA app's immersive content will also be available in several international markets, including the UK, Australia, France, Germany, Japan, Singapore, South Korea, and the United Arab Emirates. Apple plans to make the immersive sports experience accessible worldwide and boost interest in Vision Pro in various countries.

This international availability demonstrates that Apple intends to position the Apple Vision Pro not just as a tech gadget, but as a platform for content with global reach. The move into live sports could lead to further partnerships with sports leagues and media providers in the long term.

Future outlook and significance for Vision Pro

The planned live broadcasts of the Los Angeles Lakers mark an important milestone in Apple's strategy to establish Vision Pro as a central medium for immersive content. With the integration of sports broadcasts, the headset expands into a category that is particularly attractive to many users.

Apple is focusing on a format that combines emotion, technology, and entertainment. The immersive experience is intended not only to be visually impressive, but also to change the way people perceive sports. Instead of being a spectator, you feel like you're right there on the field.

Apple is expected to release official information on the exact streaming terms, subscription models, and supported games by the end of 2025. The expected broadcasts in early 2026 could mark the beginning of a new era of the digital sports experience—with the Apple Vision Pro as the central device.

Apple Vision Pro as the future of live sports

Apple Vision Pro adds a new dimension to the concept of streaming. The planned live Los Angeles Lakers games demonstrate how immersive content can be in the future. With cutting-edge camera technology, exclusive partnerships, and international availability, Apple is positioning itself at the intersection of technology and entertainment.

What previously only took place on screens will become a tangible experience with the Vision Pro – realistic, immersive, and technically at the highest level. With this, Apple is sending a clear signal about where sports broadcasts could develop in the coming years: directly into the virtual arena. (Image: Shutterstock / Michael Gordon)
