Apple is testing LLM Siri internally with a ChatGPT-like app

Apple is developing a new version of Siri based on large-scale language models, which should provide capabilities similar to ChatGPT. The goal is to make the voice assistant more powerful, context-aware, and versatile. To this end, Apple is internally testing a special app that functions like an AI chatbot. This application is intended exclusively for engineers and is not intended for public use.

Siri has been a staple of Apple products for more than a decade. However, in recent years, the assistant has been unable to keep pace with modern AI systems like ChatGPT, Gemini, or Claude. Apple is now embarking on a fundamental overhaul. The new generation of Siri will not only provide better answers, but also handle more complex tasks and offer deeper integration into the Apple ecosystem.

Internal test app with ChatGPT structure

To test the new architecture, Apple has developed an internal app similar to ChatGPT. It supports multiple conversations on different topics, remembers previous conversations, and is capable of longer dialogues. The app gives engineers the opportunity to test features before they are integrated into the next version of Siri, according to Bloomberg .

Planned capabilities of the new Siri

The future version of Siri is expected to offer significantly more features than before. Improvements are planned in several areas:

  • more context awareness so that questions and answers are understood in the right context
  • greater integration within and between apps to perform more complex tasks
  • personalized results by linking to personal data
  • ongoing, coherent conversations with human-like responses

This brings Siri technologically closer to AI chatbots such as ChatGPT or Claude.

Apple Intelligence Delay

The new Siri was originally planned to be released as part of iOS 18. However, because the development did not meet the company's high standards, Apple postponed the launch to 2026. Instead of sticking to the original plan, Apple is now working with a second-generation architecture, thus accelerating the transition to large language models.

Release schedule

Apple plans to launch the new LLM Siri in early 2026. The launch will likely take place as part of iOS 26.4, which could be released in March of that year. This will put Siri on the market a year later than originally planned. A new design for the voice assistant is also expected to be unveiled at the end of 2025. It could be visually based on the Mac's Finder icon.

Collaboration with AI companies

To secure its development, Apple is in talks with OpenAI, Anthropic, and Google. It's possible that the future Siri will not be based exclusively on Apple's internal models, but will also draw on technologies from external providers. This would allow Apple to benefit from the experience of established AI companies and strengthen its competitive advantage.

Apple relies on AI power: Siri is relaunched

Apple is working hard on a new version of Siri that uses large language models and is designed to do significantly more than before. Internal testing with a ChatGPT-like app is resulting in a voice assistant that can conduct longer conversations, perform tasks across multiple apps, and provide personalized responses. Scheduled for release in early 2026, it will be accompanied by a new design and potentially supported by partnerships with leading AI providers. With this move, Apple is clearly positioning itself in the global competition for the best AI assistants. (Image: Apple)
