Red Dead Redemption, the multi-award-winning Western classic from Rockstar Games, will be released for mobile platforms for the first time on December 4th. The release for iOS, iPadOS, and Android brings the complete open-world adventure to smartphones and tablets – including the Undead Nightmare expansion and all content from the Game of the Year Edition. Access is via Netflix Gaming; an active Netflix subscription is all that's required.
Since its original release in 2010 on PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360, Red Dead Redemption has been considered a milestone of the open-world genre. With its immersive atmosphere, believable characters, and compelling narrative, the game has secured its place in video game history. Now, Rockstar Games, in collaboration with Netflix, is opening the gates of the Wild West to mobile players – in a technically adapted version for modern devices.
Plot: A former outlaw on the hunt for his past
At the heart of the story is John Marston, a former outlaw forced to confront his past. Federal agents pressure him, compelling him to hunt down his former companions—men with whom he once roamed the country. The narrative unfolds across the rugged landscapes of the American West and Mexico. Themes of loyalty, remorse, and personal responsibility permeate the entire plot. Red Dead Redemption foregrounds the protagonist's moral choices without offering easy answers.
Undead Nightmare: Zombies meet Western atmosphere
The mobile version includes the main game as well as the popular Undead Nightmare expansion. This is an alternate scenario in which a zombie epidemic ravages the frontier. The open world transforms into a post-apocalyptic setting where John Marston fights hordes of the undead in search of a cure. Supernatural elements, new missions, and a standalone story arc make Undead Nightmare a complete single-player experience within the Red Dead Redemption universe.
Contents: Complete Game of the Year Edition – without multiplayer
With this mobile release, Rockstar Games delivers the complete single-player experience. It includes all content from the Game of the Year Edition, including additional missions, challenges, outfits, and more. A multiplayer mode has been omitted. The focus is entirely on the single-player campaign and the Undead Nightmare expansion.
Technical implementation for iOS, iPadOS and Android
Red Dead Redemption has been optimized for mobile platforms to offer a stable and visually appealing gameplay experience. The controls have been adapted for touchscreens, and the user interface has been redesigned. The game can be played in its entirety, with all content, on current iPhones, iPads, and powerful Android devices. This port is based on the version most recently released for Nintendo Switch and PlayStation 4. External game controllers are also supported.
Netflix subscription required for access
The mobile version of Red Dead Redemption is part of Netflix's gaming offering. No separate game account or in-app purchases are required. Anyone with an active Netflix subscription can download the game for free from the App Store or Google Play starting December 4th and start playing immediately. This adds a high-profile title to Netflix's gaming portfolio and offers one of the most comprehensive mobile adaptations of a AAA game to date. The game is only playable with a Netflix subscription. Download via the App Store or Google Play; an active Netflix account is required for access.
