Apple has released the second beta version of iOS 26.2 for developers. While the update doesn't introduce any radical new features, it does include a number of detailed improvements that meaningfully enhance the system. The focus is particularly on optimizations to security features, system animations, and individual apps such as Measure, games, and CarPlay. This second test version builds on the foundations of the first beta and provides further clarity regarding the feature set.
With iOS 26.2, Apple continues its strategy of continuously improving iPhones through smaller system updates. This release focuses less on visual changes and more on strategically expanding existing functionality. Particularly noticeable are the adjustments to enhanced security alerts and a redesigned Measure app. Even smaller system areas have been significantly optimized. The update is available for all devices that support iOS 26 and should be ready for all users by mid-December.
New design for the Measure app
The Measure app receives a visual update in iOS 26.2. The level now uses a so-called Liquid Glass design, with two liquid bubbles replacing the previous white circles. The new look is more modern and more in line with the general design style of current iOS versions.
Enhanced sorting options in the game app
The sorting function in the games app has been expanded. In addition to the existing options of sorting by name or "Recently Used," the media library can now also be sorted by app size. This offers more control over storage usage and is particularly helpful for devices with limited storage space.
CarPlay: Customize messages
CarPlay now allows users to deactivate pinned messages within the Messages app. This small change provides better overview and control while using the app in the car.
Faster menu animations
Pop-out menus that open from corner buttons have had their animation redesigned. The new transitions are significantly faster and smoother. The animation is reminiscent of what Apple demonstrated at WWDC and fits better with the overall iOS experience.
Further innovations
Additional features include a Liquid Glass slider for the lock screen, visually inspired by the new design of the Measure app. There's also live translation support for AirPods within the European Union. This feature expands iOS's translation capabilities for audio content and should be particularly useful for travelers or multilingual users.
Download and compatibility
iOS 26.2 Beta 2 is currently available exclusively to registered developers. The second public beta is expected soon. Those who wish to participate can register via Apple's beta website. The final version of iOS 26.2 is expected to be released between December 9th and 16th. The update is compatible with all iPhones that already support iOS 26, including devices from the iPhone XR onwards.
iOS 26.2: What's included in the fine-tuning?
iOS 26.2 is a typical interim update: unspectacular at first glance, but with many useful improvements. The new design in the Measure app, the optimized Games app, the improved animations, and especially the enhanced security alerts make the system more robust, modern, and secure. Users of iOS 26 can look forward to an update that makes everyday life more pleasant and, in an emergency, can even provide vital information.
