Apple has officially released iOS 26.4, iPadOS 26.4, macOS 26.4, watchOS 26.4, tvOS 26.4, and visionOS 26.4. This marks the end of the beta phase, and the updates are now available to all users.
The new versions bring numerous adjustments. The focus is less on individual, spectacular features and more on a broad further development of existing areas. Many changes have a direct impact on everyday use, while others work more in the background.
iOS 26.4 is one of the more extensive point updates within the current system generation. Apple uses this version to expand core apps, further enhance security, and refine the system in several areas.
At the same time, it's clear that not all features tested during the beta will be included in the final version. Some features have been deliberately held back and are expected to appear in later updates.
Apple Music and Podcasts will be significantly expanded
One focus is on the further development of Apple Music and Apple Podcasts. Apple Music is introducing a new feature called "Playlist Playground," which automatically creates playlists based on text input. Instead of manually selecting songs, a description is all it takes – the system then generates a suitable playlist including the song title (currently not available in all markets).

This is complemented by an integrated concert feature. Nearby shows and tour dates are displayed directly in the app. At the same time, Apple has redesigned the presentation of albums and playlists, now focusing more on a full-screen design that visually reflects the album cover.

Apple Podcasts is also being significantly expanded. With iOS 26.4, the app now fully supports video podcasts for the first time. Content can not only be streamed but also downloaded. Switching between audio and video is seamless, while recommendations and curation remain unchanged.
More security than standard
A key aspect of the update is security. Device theft protection is enabled by default in iOS 26.4. This means that additional security mechanisms are automatically activated without users having to manually enable them.
Certain actions now require biometric authentication. These include accessing passwords, making changes to your Apple account, or adjusting sensitive settings. Additionally, Apple is introducing a security delay that applies to particularly critical changes, making manipulation more difficult.
The end-to-end encryption for RCS messages, which was tested in the beta, is not part of the final version. Apple tested this feature during the beta phase but plans to fully implement it in a later iOS 26 update.
Many improvements in everyday life
In addition to the major changes, iOS 26.4 includes numerous adjustments that are noticeable in daily use. The wallpaper gallery has been restructured and is now easier to navigate. At the same time, for the first time, it displays how much data individual devices are using via the personal hotspot.
The Reminders app also receives an additional prioritization option with the new "Urgent" category. The system is complemented by an ambient music widget that offers quick access to background sounds.
In the background, iCloud settings were also expanded and the Apple account area was unified across multiple apps. This results in a more consistent user experience.
Health app becomes more precise
In the health section, Apple is expanding its analysis features. A new metric, "Average Sleep Time," provides a better overview of one's sleep routine. At the same time, blood oxygen levels are returning to the central vital signs graph and are once again displayed alongside other measurements.
These changes ensure a clearer and more complete evaluation of the available health data.
Many small adjustments in detail
In addition, iOS 26.4 includes a number of minor improvements. These include the new audio zoom feature in the camera, which focuses the sound more closely on the subject during video recordings. Apple Music now allows songs to be added to multiple playlists simultaneously, making management easier.
The update also includes accessibility improvements. Live subtitles now support additional languages, and new options for customizing visual effects have been introduced. Minor design tweaks and new keyboard shortcuts, such as one for controlling the loading limit, round out the update.
New emojis expand the selection
With iOS 26.4, Apple also expands the emoji library. New symbols such as a trumpet, a treasure chest, an orca, and a landslide are added. At the same time, existing emojis have been expanded with additional variations to represent greater diversity.

macOS 26.4 brings practical improvements
macOS 26.4 also focuses on targeted optimizations. Safari receives a compact tab bar, creating more space for content. In Freeform, the app is significantly enhanced with new tools and integration with Apple Creator Studio.
The Reminders app takes over the "Urgent" prioritization, while Family Sharing becomes more flexible. Users can now use their own payment methods without relying on the family organizer.
In addition, Apple simplifies the customization of subtitles and offers a real-time preview. New emojis and a manual battery charge limit complete the update.
tvOS 26.4 focuses on improved recommendations
On Apple TV, content discovery takes center stage. With "Genius Browse," Apple introduces a new feature that delivers personalized recommendations for movies and TV shows. The suggestions are based on previous viewing habits and are updated regularly.
At the same time, Apple is completely removing the old iTunes apps and integrating all content into the Apple TV app. The update also includes improved audio settings and simplified subtitle customization.
visionOS 26.4 expands the technical basis
For the Apple Vision Pro, visionOS 26.4 primarily brings technical innovations. Support for NVIDIA CloudXR enables the streaming of computationally intensive content from the cloud. This utilizes foveated streaming, which optimizes image quality in the field of view while simultaneously conserving resources.
In addition, the platform will be further expanded in the direction of multimedia, including through video extensions in Apple Podcasts.
iOS 26.4 carefully evolves Apple's software
iOS 26.4 and the accompanying updates clearly demonstrate the direction in which Apple's software is evolving. Instead of individual major innovations, the focus is on continuous improvement.
Many changes are subtle at first glance, but their impact becomes apparent in everyday use. At the same time, room remains for further development, as some features have been deliberately postponed. Therefore, iOS 26.4 is not a radical update, but a logical step in the ongoing evolution of the entire system.
