Apple TV is further expanding its sci-fi portfolio while simultaneously drawing a clear line: The award-winning series "For All Mankind" will end with a sixth season. Even before the fifth season premiered, it was confirmed that the story would reach its planned conclusion. This marks the beginning of the final phase for one of Apple TV's most important original productions.
Since the launch of Apple TV on November 1, 2019, "For All Mankind" has been one of the streaming service's core series. The production was part of the original lineup and has established itself as a mainstay over the years.
The series was recognized worldwide by critics as a high-quality science fiction production and received numerous awards. These include Primetime Creative Arts Emmy Awards and Producers Guild of America Awards, as well as Critics' Choice Award nominations.
In parallel, Apple TV has positioned itself as a streaming platform with a focus on original productions. The service launched exclusively with original content and quickly garnered a large number of awards. Apple productions have now received over 773 awards and more than 3,347 nominations.
Season 5: Start date and release schedule
The fifth season of "For All Mankind" premieres on Friday, March 27, on Apple TV. A first episode will be released, followed by a new episode every week.
The season comprises a total of ten episodes. The season finale is scheduled for May 29th.
On the same day, the new spin-off "Star City" will also launch, expanding the series universe and running parallel to the main series.
Content of the fifth season
The story begins in the 2010s and takes place several years after the events surrounding the Goldilocks asteroid.
The focus remains on the Mars colony "Happy Valley." It has since developed into a large and functioning settlement with thousands of inhabitants. It serves as a base for new missions that will extend beyond Mars into the solar system.
As the colony grows, political and social tensions also increase. Earth's nations attempt to impose control and legal order on Mars. At the same time, the planet's inhabitants increasingly develop their own interests. This creates a conflict between the Martian population and their original home on Earth.
