Apple TV+ has announced a new highlight for Peanuts fans: The special "Snoopy Presents: A Summer Musical" will be released on July 18. It is the first new Peanuts musical special in over 35 years. It was produced as part of a collaboration between Apple and the animation studio WildBrain. The episode will stream exclusively on Apple TV+.
The special is part of a long-term agreement between Apple TV+ and WildBrain. This makes Apple TV+ the exclusive streaming home for all classic Peanuts specials as well as new original productions. A Snoopy movie is also currently in the works. The release of "Snoopy Presents: A Summer Musical" also coincides with Snoopy's 75th anniversary. Apple TV+ is celebrating the anniversary with several new releases, including series such as "Camp Snoopy," "Welcome Home Franklin," "One-of-a-Kind Marcie," and a documentary about Charles Schulz, the creator of Peanuts.
What is the new special about
"Snoopy Presents: A Summer Musical" is set in the summer and centers around Charlie Brown, who learns that his beloved summer camp is about to close. Since it is his last year at camp, he wants to make the most of his time. At the same time, Snoopy and Woodstock discover an old treasure map. They go on an adventure in the woods and actually find treasure. They use their find to organize a concert to help save the camp. The episode is a mix of classic Peanuts humor, music, and adventure, with particular emphasis on the musical arrangement. The original score was composed by Jeff Morrow and Ben Folds, both Emmy-award winning composers. The musical is aimed at children and families, but will also appeal to adult fans who grew up with Peanuts.
