Apple has released the fourth beta version of iOS 18.5, iPadOS 18.5, macOS 15.5, watchOS 11.5, tvOS 18.5, and visionOS 2.5 to registered developers. The current beta phase continues at full speed. The update is available for download now through the Apple Developer Program. A new public beta for Beta Software Program participants is expected to follow in the coming days.

With Beta 4, Apple is getting closer to the final release of iOS 18.5 and the subsequent system updates. No major visible changes have been announced yet. Instead, the focus this time is once again on stability, bug fixes, and under-the-hood optimizations. Those hoping for new features will likely have to wait until the major update to iOS 19 this summer.

iOS 18.5: An overview of the current status

The first betas of iOS 18.5 already focused on smaller but useful improvements:

  • Mail app more customizable: Contact photos and grouping by sender can now be turned on or off directly from the three-dot menu in the Mail app.
  • AppleCare information is clearer: In the settings under "General > AppleCare and Warranty" there is now an AppleCare banner that provides quicker access to information about the protection status.

These changes made the experience noticeably easier, especially for users who hadn't fully embraced the new features since iOS 18.2. The second and third betas, however, didn't bring any documented, visible changes—they clearly focused on behind-the-scenes optimizations.

Beta 4: Focus remains on stability

As of now, Beta 4 of iOS 18.5 also doesn't offer any visible new features. Apple is continuing to work behind the scenes to further improve system performance and fix minor bugs. The goal seems clear: a version that's as stable as possible for the final release in May. As usual, if any hidden new features or code hints are discovered over the next few days, we'll address them separately and report on them.

Release of iOS 18.5 is getting closer

Based on the schedule of the past few years, the final version of iOS 18.5 is expected to be released in May – probably around the third week of May. By then, there could be a fifth beta or even the release candidate (RC) before the update is officially made available to all users.

Beta 4 of iOS 18.5 continues the familiar path: fewer new features, but more refinement and stability. Those already using the beta can install the new update directly. As always, newcomers are advised to test beta versions only on a second device. As soon as new information or discoveries emerge, we'll keep you updated as usual.
