Siri has been a staple of Apple for years, but recently it has noticeably weakened. iOS 18, in particular, featured big announcements, but many promises were not fulfilled. Now Apple wants to iron out the flaws. iOS 19 brings a major overhaul that should finally bring Siri up to the level that users like you expect.

Apple had raised high expectations with iOS 18, especially in the area of artificial intelligence. Siri was supposed to play a key role and become significantly smarter. Instead, many features were delayed or only partially functional. Apple has now officially acknowledged the delays and announced that it will add the missing features over the course of the coming year. Internally, however, much more has happened: Apple is preparing a fundamental reinvention of Siri with iOS 19.

The real problem with Siri

The main problem with Siri in iOS 18 was time pressure. Apple originally wanted to rebuild Siri's entire architecture before the release of iOS 18. However, there wasn't enough time. Therefore, Siri currently runs on two separate systems. One part handles classic tasks like setting timers or making calls. The other part is responsible for more complex requests that require access to personal data. This division causes problems. If you change something in the middle of your request, Siri often gets confused. In addition, Apple's developers were struggling internally with a flood of bugs. Craig Federighi, Apple's chief software officer, finally expressed his concerns internally: Many functions simply didn't work as they should. Overall, Siri couldn't offer the stability, speed, and flexibility Apple had originally planned. In order to still showcase the AI features of Apple Intelligence, the company had to rely on half-finished solutions.

How Apple plans to improve Siri with iOS 19

Apple plans to completely redesign Siri in iOS 19. The plan is to merge the two current systems into a single, powerful system. This should make Siri respond to your commands faster, more intelligently, and more flexibly. Most importantly, it should function seamlessly even if you make changes or rephrase your request during the process. Apple may officially unveil the new Siri architecture at the Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC) in June. A broader rollout is reportedly planned for spring 2026, as part of iOS 19.4. This marks Apple's final departure from the foundation on which Siri has run for over ten years. With this new foundation, Siri should finally receive the features originally promised for iOS 18.4, but which have so far been missing. This will make the voice assistant not only faster and more reliable, but also significantly more useful in everyday life.

New boss, new leadership: Mike Rockwell takes over

Another important step concerns the organization behind Siri. Mike Rockwell, who previously led the development of Vision Pro, is now taking over responsibility for Siri. Rockwell has begun a fundamental overhaul of the management structure and is bringing many experienced specialists from his Vision Pro software department into the Siri team. The teams working on speech processing, speech understanding, performance, and user experience are also being reorganized. This is due to the complaints of many employees about the old management structure. With Rockwell's fresh approach, Apple is focusing on more efficient development and a better internal working environment. This should enable Siri to be improved more quickly and adapted to new technologies.

How Apple finally wants to make Siri powerful and smart

With iOS 19, Apple is launching a true fresh start for Siri. Instead of just tweaking small details, it's overhauling the entire foundation. The new architecture, new leadership, and clearer structures should ensure that Siri finally becomes a truly powerful voice assistant again. If all goes according to plan, you can look forward to a significantly improved Siri—smarter, faster, and more reliable than ever before. WWDC 2025 will show whether Apple truly delivers this time. It certainly looks like Siri is finally getting the upgrade it's long deserved. The best accessories in one place: Our Amazon Storefront offers you top products, including for your HomeKit!
