Apple Intelligence 2.0: More AI, more Siri, more control

Apple entered the world of AI last year with Apple Intelligence. Now the next generation is here. Apple Intelligence 2.0 brings new features, deeper system integration, and more options from third-party providers. The coming months will reveal how Apple plans to integrate AI even more deeply into everyday life. Here's what's planned.

Apple originally announced Apple Intelligence as "AI for the rest of us"—easy to understand, integrated, and secure. The initial features were solid, but not revolutionary. Now Apple is taking it a step further. With Apple Intelligence 2.0, new Siri features, better app integration, and external AI models are intended to take the iPhone to the next level. These aren't grand visions, but rather concrete improvements that will come in iOS 19 and beyond.

Siri gets a big upgrade

Siri has been somewhat stagnant in recent years. Many users felt that it wasn't really getting any smarter—some even felt the opposite. Apple wants to change that with the new features of Apple Intelligence 2.0. Three features were announced last year but postponed . Now they're scheduled to arrive this fall with iOS 19:

  • Personal context support: Siri should recognize what is currently being discussed – for example from messages, calendar entries or previous conversations – and respond accordingly.
  • Onscreen Awareness: Siri can analyze content on the screen and offer appropriate actions or information.
  • New in-app and cross-app actions: You can use Siri to control more complex actions across multiple apps—like sending files, scheduling appointments, or sending messages—without switching between apps.

Even bigger is the planned Siri upgrade, which Apple calls "LLM Siri" internally. This new version is based on a Large Language Model (LLM) and is intended to communicate with you more naturally, similar to ChatGPT or Google Gemini. Siri will use so-called app intents to control third-party apps more precisely. Functions such as text generation and summaries will also be available directly via Siri. According to current information, Apple plans to introduce this new version of Siri in spring 2026 as part of iOS 19.4. However, the schedule is subject to change – internal restructuring at Apple could accelerate or delay development.

More AI from third parties – not just Apple alone

While Apple is sticking with its own AI platform, it is increasingly opening up to external providers. ChatGPT has already been integrated into iOS 18—many see it as a useful addition. More services are expected to be added in the future. Google CEO Sundar Pichai has confirmed that he hopes to collaborate with Apple to integrate Gemini into iOS 19. And according to insiders, Tim Cook has also signaled that iOS 19 could feature several new third-party AI services. Perplexity AI is one possible candidate.

  • For you, this means you get more choice and can decide for yourself which AI suits you best.

AI is being extended to more apps

Apple Intelligence isn't limited to Siri. It's also about integrating AI into various apps. iOS 18 already hinted at integrating Image Playground into the Music app. This could automatically generate playlist covers. There are no concrete leaks yet regarding additional AI features in other apps, but according to Mark Gurman, Apple will likely present how existing AI features can be used more broadly at the next WWDC. It's conceivable, for example, that Notes, Mail, or Safari will make greater use of Apple Intelligence.

Apple Intelligence 2.0 – all at once or piece by piece?

Last year, Apple released many features gradually with smaller iOS updates. This could be the case again this time. Whether Apple Intelligence 2.0 will be introduced all at once or whether you'll get the new features spread out over the year isn't yet clear. Currently, there are many indications that Apple is cautiously announcing what's actually ready—everything else will come later.

Apple Intelligence 2.0: The next step in everyday AI

Apple Intelligence 2.0 brings many useful enhancements. Siri, in particular, is significantly improved and is designed to behave more like a true digital assistant. There are also new control options across apps and better support for third-party AI models like ChatGPT and Gemini. How quickly Apple brings the next generation of Apple Intelligence to your iPhone depends on future developments. One thing is clear, however: AI will remain a key focus for Apple in 2025 – and you'll feel that in your everyday life. Looking for the best accessories?
