Apple 2026 in transition: Five innovations will shape the year

Apple will once again be at the center of the tech world next year. 2026 is shaping up to be an exciting year, with several new devices expected – from a redesigned MacBook Pro to a possible foldable iPhone. Although Apple hasn't yet completed its product launches for this year, the focus is already on what's coming next. The planned devices demonstrate how consistently Apple is evolving its product range and integrating new technologies into existing categories.

Apple has proven in recent years that even small steps can have a big impact. But 2026 is likely to bring more than just evolution. Some products are nearing market readiness, others are scheduled to be unveiled later this year. Five of them are considered particularly interesting – not only because they affect new device classes, but also because they demonstrate the direction Apple is taking: more powerful, more connected, and more accessible.

New Studio Display

Apple traditionally produces only a few displays, which is why each new version is special. Following the Pro Display XDR from 2019 and the Studio Display from 2022, a new external display is scheduled to follow in early 2026. There will be a 27-inch option equipped with a miniLED panel, thus delivering better brightness and contrast. Inside, it is expected to feature an A19 Pro chip—a significant improvement over the A13 Bionic in the current model. While details are still scarce, the new Studio Display should be of particular interest to professional users who rely on precise color reproduction and high image quality.

Apple Home Hub

Reports about a new smart home device from Apple have been circulating for some time. The so-called Home Hub is said to feature a 7-inch display and run a new operating system called homeOS. This would allow the entire smart home to be controlled centrally – similar to the Google Nest Hub or Amazon Echo Show, but in typical Apple style. The A18 chip is expected to be inside, offering sufficient power for voice control, video streaming, and automation functions. The Home Hub is heavily based on Apple Intelligence's Siri, which is not yet fully operational. Therefore, a market launch is considered realistic in 2026 at the earliest. If Apple completes the development of its AI platform as planned, the device could become an integral part of many households.

MacBook Pro redesign

The MacBook Pro is set to receive a new design for the first time since 2021. A significantly slimmer design is planned for 2026, and an OLED display will be installed in a MacBook for the first time. Furthermore, it is rumored that Apple will equip the new MacBook Pro with an optional touchscreen and integrate 5G support. This would make the device even more versatile. The processor is expected to be the new M6 chip, Apple's first 2-nanometer processor. It is expected to offer more performance with lower power consumption. This combination of new design, display technology, and modern chip is likely to make the 2026 MacBook Pro one of the most important product updates in recent years.

First foldable iPhone

A foldable iPhone has long been on many users' wish lists. Apple now appears to be implementing this idea – rumored to be called the iPhone Fold. Unlike many competing models, it will be more of a foldable tablet than a traditional flip phone. The device will likely have a 7.8-inch internal display and a 5.5-inch external display. Apple is placing particular emphasis on stability and a hinge that is as crease-free as possible. The casing is said to be made of titanium, and Touch ID will likely be used instead of Face ID. The iPhone Fold would be a major step for Apple, demonstrating that the company also wants to set its own standards in the field of foldable devices.

Cheaper MacBook

Another new product concerns the MacBook line. Apple is apparently working on a lower-cost model positioned below the MacBook Air. This device is intended to appeal primarily to entry-level users without sacrificing quality. It will feature a 13-inch display and be powered by the A18 Pro chip. The starting price is expected to be around $699, making it the most affordable MacBook in years. Color variants are also planned to make the device more attractive to a wider audience. Interestingly, this model marks the first time Apple has used an A-series chip in a Mac. This could indicate a new product strategy that will enable lighter, more efficient, and more affordable devices.

Apple sets the standard for technology again in 2026

Apple has some big changes planned for 2026. The new Studio Display, the Home Hub, the redesigned MacBook Pro, the first foldable iPhone, and the more affordable MacBook demonstrate the company's broad portfolio. While some products build on existing lines, others break new ground. The interplay of new hardware and advances in Apple Intelligence, in particular, will determine the success of the upcoming devices. One thing is certain: Apple will remain one of the most important drivers of innovation in the technology industry in 2026 – and will set the standard again with each new generation.
