Apple Leaks iOS 26

A leaked version of iOS 26 provides an unusually detailed insight into Apple's internal software planning. The leaked version comes from an iPhone prototype and contains numerous references to upcoming features, services, and product integrations. It doesn't just concern iOS 26 itself, but also features that could appear in 2026, 2027, or even later. The leak reveals how Apple prepares new features well in advance and plans for them over several years.

The leaked software is a very early internal version of iOS 26, originally installed on an Apple prototype. This version was leaked outside the company and subsequently analyzed. A previous report listed the device codenames contained in the software. Now, a list of particularly noteworthy feature flags discovered in the code has emerged (via MacRumors).

Feature flags are internal markers Apple uses to test, prepare, or time features. In some cases, their meaning is clear. In others, they remain vague, allowing inferences only from the name, context, and structure. Apple itself provides no explanations in this internal code. The entries reflect the development status around June 2025 and may change before release.

Hints of new products in iOS 26

Unknown home accessory codenamed J229

iOS 26 contains several references to a so-called J229 architecture. This refers to a home accessory that has not yet been further specified. The code mentions, among other things, a sensor manager and sensor prediction models.

These indications point to a device that actively collects and analyzes environmental data. It's possible that this is the long-rumored Apple camera for the smart home sector. A standalone base station for the Home Hub or another accessory with a sensor focus is also conceivable. A definitive identification is not currently possible.

AirTag 2 with enhanced features

The leak contains numerous references to new AirTag features that clearly point to the AirTag 2. Improvements to Bluetooth, low battery behavior, and crowdsourced location tracking are mentioned.

Additionally, several internal designations appear, including AirTag2025_Phone_Finding, AirTag2025_Watch_Finding, Distribution, Battery, and Switchover. The mention of the year 2025 is noteworthy, suggesting that Apple originally planned the AirTag 2 for this year and the release was later postponed.

AirPods and new audio features

For AirPods, iOS 26 lists several features planned for spring 2026. These include Contextual Reminders, Conversation Breakthrough VQA, and Visual Lookup. Additionally, precise outdoor location tracking and room-aware connection control are mentioned.

Another identifier, Extended_Precision_Finding_Core_Tech, is linked to Fall 2025. Additionally, the entry SRAudioMixing appears. This describes mixing audio with the currently active streaming device and could represent a new multi-device audio feature for AirPods.

Vision Pro and spatial audio enhancements

For Vision Pro, iOS 26 includes a feature flag called "Enable AUSM Enhanced Room Spatializer." This feature is slated for release in spring 2026 and suggests improved spatial audio processing, where the sound is more closely adapted to room size and environment.

Software features for iOS 26 and future versions

Health+ and other health features

A key new feature is Health+. Planned for spring 2026, it is classified as an AI-powered healthcare service and is considered a potential subscription service in the healthcare sector.

Additionally, another health feature called Gumdrop appears, the purpose of which is not described in detail. A feature called Geronimo is also mentioned, which is internally linked to the year 2030. Specific details about this are lacking.

Live Captions and Language Extensions

According to iOS 26 code, Live Captions will be expanded to include more languages. This expansion is marked with WWDC 2026 and suggests a significant expansion of real-time captioning.

AutoFillUI for credit card data

One important new feature concerns AutoFillUI. Starting in fall 2026, third-party apps will be able to automatically access saved credit card data. Currently, this is only possible via Apple Pay or manually entering the card details. This change would significantly simplify payments within apps.

Siri and intelligent search

iOS 26 contains several references to an improved version of Siri. These include IntelligenceFlow, PlanOverrides, SpotlightPersonalAnswersSiri, SpotlightSearchToolLLMQueryUnderstanding, and SpotlightExtSemanticSearch.

These entries are dated for spring 2026 and suggest a deeper integration of AI, personal context and semantic search, especially in conjunction with Spotlight.

Other app features

Freeform is slated to receive folders in spring 2026. The Journal app will also get follow-up prompts, also in spring 2026.

For Wallet, BankConnectUpcomingPaymentNotifications and AppleCardUpcomingPaymentNotifications are linked to WWDC 2026. In the Photos app, Photos Connections and Shared Collections will appear, planned for fall 2026.

Additionally, a Dynamic Sports Tier Manager is mentioned for spring 2026.

Health features with a view to 2027

Several features are labeled WWDC 2027. These include sleepCloudKitManatee, sleepCloudKitSync, sleepOnipad, and sleepOnMac. These entries suggest cross-platform sleep analysis that incorporates iPhone, iPad, and Mac.

Accessibility features in iOS 26

iOS 26 includes numerous new accessibility features, some with specific timeframes.

Live captions will appear in a version called LiveCaptionsForAll. Background sounds will receive a version 2. Full keyboard access with VoiceOver is planned for macOS, as is an expanded font size range.

The Magnifying Glass app is getting new features like Announce Stairs, Find My Item, and Human Hand Pose. Live Listen will receive controls on the Apple Watch, live microphone levels on the watch, and a 30-second rewind function. A new feature called Tilt Scroll is also mentioned.

Further clues from the iOS 26 code

CallKit mentions a push-to-talk option. ConversationKit includes the entry Experimental_CallScreening_LiveActivity. The FinHealth section mentions reverse lookup, habitual spending, and spending summaries, possibly related to Apple Card.

Mail refers to CatchUpHighlightsV2 with a timeframe in winter 2025. Podcasts will receive new features for CarPlay, expanded settings for connected subscriptions, and translation functions for transcripts including direct audio playback.

For visionOS, features for sticker creation, sticker effects and emoji generation are mentioned.

iOS 26 offers a glimpse into Apple's long-term software planning

The leak surrounding iOS 26 reveals Apple's long-term planning approach to software development. The feature flags range from specific functions planned for 2026 to projects with a perspective extending to 2027 and beyond. However, these are internal plans that are subject to change at any time.

Features can be removed, postponed, or released in a modified form. Nevertheless, iOS 26 offers a rare glimpse into Apple's internal development direction and makes it clear that future updates are heavily focused on AI, health, accessibility, and the tight integration of devices and services.
