Want to know which iPhone models support Apple Intelligence? Apple announced the new AI suite with iOS 18, but not all features arrived at once. Furthermore, not all iPhones are included – and there are also special features in the EU. Here you can find out which devices are supported, when the features were enabled, and what you need to use Apple Intelligence.
Apple Intelligence brings AI directly to your device—locally, without the need for a cloud connection. Features range from improved writing tools and intelligent image editing to a completely redesigned Siri. The rollout took place in several stages via updates from iOS 18.1 to 18.4.
Supported iPhone models
Apple Intelligence isn't available on every iPhone. Its features require significant processing power, so it's only available on newer models with powerful chips. You can use Apple Intelligence if you have one of the following iPhones:
- iPhone 16e
- iPhone 16
- iPhone 16 Plus
- iPhone 16 Pro
- iPhone 16 Pro Max
- iPhone 15 Pro
- iPhone 15 Pro Max
All models require at least iOS 18.1. The iPhone 15 Pro and 15 Pro Max have the A17 Pro chip, while the iPhone 16 models come with the A18. Older devices—including the iPhone 15 and 15 Plus—are excluded.
Supported iPads and Macs
iPads and Macs also get Apple Intelligence, but only selected models:
- iPad Pro with Apple Silicon
- iPad Air with Apple Silicon
- iPad mini with A17 Pro
- All Macs with Apple Silicon – i.e. M1, M2, M2 Pro, M2 Max, M2 Ultra, etc.
- These include: MacBook Air, MacBook Pro, iMac, Mac mini, Mac Studio, Mac Pro
- Apple Vision Pro also supports Apple Intelligence
Rollout of features by iOS version
The AI features didn't all arrive at once. Apple divided the rollout into four stages:
- iOS 18.1: The first features have become available. These include the new Writing Tools and Memory Movies.
- iOS 18.2 and 18.3: Safari got a summary feature for web pages, and the new clean-up tool for photos was added.
- iOS 18.4: The full range of functions was unlocked here – and made completely available in the EU for the first time.
Availability in the EU
In the EU, the launch of some Apple Intelligence features was delayed. While users in the US and other regions had access starting with iOS 18.1, EU users had to wait until iOS 18.4 to use the full suite.
System and memory requirements
In addition to the right device, you need:
- iOS 18.1 or later (or iPadOS 18.1 or macOS Sequoia 15.1)
- Around 7 GB of free storage space
- Activated Siri language settings (for example, German or English)
If your device meets these requirements, you can use Apple Intelligence – provided you have enabled the relevant features in the settings.
Activation and first steps
After the update, you'll find all the new options under Settings > Apple Intelligence & Siri. There you can enable features like the Writing Tools, Image Playground, and Genmoji. It's important that you have a stable Wi-Fi connection the first time you use it—the AI models need to be fully loaded onto your device.
Which devices support Apple Intelligence – and how to activate everything
Apple Intelligence only works on select devices – iPhones with A17 Pro and A18 chips or newer, iPads with M1/M2 and newer or A17 Pro, and Macs with Apple Silicon. The features were unlocked through several updates, and in the EU, they were only fully available with iOS 18.4. If your device and software version are correct, you can enable the AI functions directly in the settings. This gives you smart assistance and new creative tools directly on your device – without the need for a cloud connection. Want to get the most out of Apple Intelligence?
