BURGAS, BULGARIA - AUGUST 31, 2017: MacBook Pro Retina Display with Touch bar and a Touch ID sensor integrated into the Power button, made by Apple Inc. on white wooden background.

We have often read rumors that Apple plans to introduce the 14- and 16-inch MacBook Pro this year. But now we have concrete details about the specifications for the first time.

Rumors about new MacBook Pro models have been with us for some time. It is repeatedly claimed that the new professional notebooks will have a new design. But not much more was known. Now the reliable Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo has spoken out and given the first details. According to him, the two MacBook Pro models will have 14- and 16-inch displays and will only be equipped with an Apple Silicon chip. This means that there will not be an Intel version. In addition, the devices will reportedly not have a Touch Bar. Instead, physical function keys will be used again. The decision is said to have been made based on customer feedback. In addition, the MacBook Pro 2021 will have a MagSafe charging port along with built-in IO ports. According to Kuo, most users will not need any additional adapters.

MacBook Pro 2021: MagSafe ensures fast charging

The new case design is said to have angled sides on both the top and bottom halves of the device, following the flat edge design trend that started with the 2018 iPad Pro and was adopted in the 2020 iPhone 12 series. Kuo does not specify exactly which IO ports will be offered. The current 13-inch and 16-inch high-end models of the MacBook Pro have four Thunderbolt 3 USB-C ports, two on each side. In the meantime, Bloomberg has also published a post confirming Kuo's statements. Regarding the MagSafe charging port, the news site as follows:

Apple will also redesign the MacBook Air

The return of MagSafe with the next MacBook Pros will also allow these laptops to charge at a faster speed. The port will be similar to the elongated, pill-shaped design of the older MagSafe connector. Despite the move away from USB-C for charging, Apple will continue to include multiple USB-C ports in its future Macs.

In addition, Bloomberg emphasized again that the two devices will feature mini-LED technology. Finally, the MacBook Air was also commented on. According to the source, an update is also planned for the small model. This will follow the MacBook Pro 2021 models but will not be presented until 2022 at the earliest. Regarding the release date of the new Pro versions, it was stated that an announcement will be made in the middle or end of this year.
