Leak: Images show smaller iPhone 12 notch

Anapa, Russia - October 3, 2019: Man hand holding iPhone 11 with scanning Face ID on the screen. iPhone 11 was created and developed by the Apple inc.

A few days ago, images of the new iPhone 12 Pro Max were shown, which were created based on CAD files. Now there are new schematic drawings around the notch.

The unveiled design of the iPhone 12 Pro Max has been very well received by most users - the reduction in size of the notch has also been received positively overall. But what exactly could it look like under the familiar iPhone notch? This is revealed by new CAD files released by Apple leaker Jon Prosser While the first image is reminiscent of a CAD illustration that could be intended for manufacturing partners, the second shot contains important details about the integrated hardware.

In order to make the notch more compact, Apple has positioned the ambient light and 3D sensors of the TrueDepth camera centrally below the iPhone speaker. According to Prosser, the microphone will be located right next to the speaker, even if it is not labeled. At the moment it looks as if the notch will be around a third smaller than it is now. Will this bring back the battery percentage indicator on the display?

Face ID placement under the display is possible

The well-known Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo was the first to predict at least one iPhone model in 2020 with a smaller notch. Since then, reports of a change have increased. This should be seen as an interim step, as Apple is actually working on removing the notch completely - but that may take some time. Apple supplier AMS announced a new camera technology last year that would allow the Face ID module to be placed under the display. Observers assumed that Apple could use this technology as early as this year, which is obviously not the case, as long as the images are actually real. A total of four new 12th generation iPhone models are expected this year. It is currently unclear whether all four premium devices will have the same design. Some sources believe that at least two of the four devices will get the new housing - so it remains exciting. (Photo by Denys Prykhodov / Bigstockphoto)
