The iPhone SE has been established as a cheap alternative in Apple's product range for years. But reports from Asia suggest that the fourth generation, the iPhone SE 4, will not only offer new features but will also be more expensive. What are the possible price increases all about and which upgrades could justify them? Here you can find out everything you need to know.

Apple fans appreciate the iPhone SE for its combination of proven technology and an attractive price. But the days when the iPhone SE was a real bargain could be over. Rumors suggest that the upcoming model will be priced a little higher. At the same time, Apple is also promising some exciting innovations that should make the iPhone SE 4 a much more modern device.

Possible price increase

One of the most exciting points is the pricing of the new iPhone SE. Reports from Asia, more specifically a Japanese source, reported by Korean social media user “yeux1122” quoted suggest that the iPhone SE 4 could launch at a price below 78,000 yen, equivalent to about $500. However, in some markets, such as Korea, the price could top 800,000 won, equivalent to about $540. In the US, Apple is expected to keep the price just under $500. This would be a modest increase compared to the current model, which starts at $429. Previous reports speculate a price between $429 and $470, depending on final production costs and launch.

Which upgrades justify the higher price?

Apple apparently plans to equip the iPhone SE 4 with several major innovations that could explain the price increase. These innovations include:

  • An all-screen design: Unlike previous SE models, the iPhone SE 4 could have a modern, frameless design, similar to the current iPhone models.
  • Face ID: The classic home button design is likely to disappear and be replaced by facial recognition technology, offering a much more contemporary user experience.
  • OLED display: Instead of an LCD screen, the new model could be equipped with an OLED display, which provides brighter colors and better contrast.
  • USB-C port: By switching from Lightning to USB-C, Apple is following the new EU guidelines and making the iPhone SE more compatible with other devices.
  • More powerful processor: It is speculated that the device will be equipped with either the A17 Pro or the A18 Bionic chip, which will ensure outstanding performance.

With these features, the iPhone SE 4 would be much closer to the more expensive iPhone models in terms of technology and design.

Release date

Apple reportedly plans to launch the iPhone SE 4 in March 2025, giving it plenty of time to optimize production and meet expectations for a device that is both affordable and technologically advanced.

iPhone SE 4: Modern features at an attractive price

The iPhone SE 4 promises to be an exciting upgrade for anyone looking for a modern iPhone at an affordable price. Although a slight price increase is likely, the many new features could more than justify the extra cost. From an OLED display to Face ID to USB-C, the new SE model will adopt some of the most popular features of the more expensive iPhones. If you're thinking about buying a new iPhone, the iPhone SE 4 could be an interesting choice. With a possible price between 500 and 600 euros, it remains in the mid-price segment and still offers technology that you would otherwise only find in more expensive models.
