The M5 MacBook Pro will not be launched in 2025. According to current information, anyone expecting a hardware upgrade will have to wait until at least early 2026. Apple is apparently planning to slow down its update schedule. This affects not only the MacBook Pro, but also other planned devices with the M5 chip.
Apple has pursued a relatively predictable product strategy in recent years. New iPhones traditionally launch in September, while Macs usually follow in October or November. Since switching to Apple Silicon, the company has established a regular update cycle. However, this now appears to be shifting. The M5 MacBook Pro models, originally expected for late 2025, are not expected until 2026, according to Bloomberg reporter Mark Gurman.
M5 MacBook Pro not before 2026
According to Gurman , Apple is not currently planning any new MacBook Pro models with the M5 chip for 2025. Instead, a release is being targeted internally for the first half of 2026. This would be a significant delay, as Gurman himself had previously predicted a launch in late 2025. A specific reason for the delay was not given. However, Gurman continues to consider the schedule to be non-final. The last generation was introduced in November 2024. This means that Apple would skip a regular MacBook Pro upgrade for the first time since the inception of the Apple Silicon strategy. For many users, this represents a break with their previous update habits.
Few innovations in the M5 MacBook Pro
According to the report, the M5 MacBook Pro models will only receive a chip upgrade. No major changes to the design or display are expected. Apple is apparently planning these changes for the next generation with the M6 chip. This includes, among other things, OLED displays and a new chassis. Previous rumors assumed that a MacBook Pro with OLED technology would be released in 2026. If the M5 model also launches this year, the OLED update could be delayed until 2027. Another possibility is that Apple releases the M5 MacBook Pro in early 2026 and the OLED model later in the same year. However, that would be a rather unusual scenario for Apple.
M5 MacBook Air and new display also planned
In addition to the M5 MacBook Pro, new MacBook Air models with the M5 chip are also expected in 2026. These will replace the current M4 variants. Apple is also working on a new external monitor, which is considered the successor to the 2022 Studio Display. This monitor is also scheduled for release in early 2026. There are also rumors of a MacBook with the A18 Pro chip, which could also launch in 2026. However, this information does not come from Gurman, but from other sources.
M5 MacBook Pro is taking longer to arrive
According to current information, the M5 MacBook Pro will no longer be released in 2025. Instead, Apple is targeting a launch in early 2026. Major technical innovations are planned for the M6 model. The delay also affects the MacBook Air and a planned new display. What this means for Apple's update schedule remains to be seen. One thing is clear: The M4 MacBook Pro will remain relevant longer, and those waiting for the M5 will need patience. (Image: Shutterstock / Dontree_M)
