Anapa, Russia - October 4, 2019: Woman holding iPhone 11 with social networking service WhatsApp on the screen. iPhone 11 was created and developed by the Apple inc.

WhatsApp is developing a "disappearing mode," a kind of self-deleting mode that focuses on chat privacy. This feature is not yet available to the public.

According to WABetaInfo, WhatsApp is developing a new feature for iOS. If a user activates the Disappearing Mode, messages within a chat are deleted as soon as the recipient has read them. The blog writes:

Today we're announcing a feature called "Disappearing Mode"! If you value your privacy, disappearing messages are the right feature for you. You can enable it in your contact info and group info. However, you may need to manually enable it when a contact starts a new chat with you.

Once this feature is available, users will need to open the Privacy section in WhatsApp settings and then turn on the “Disappearing Mode” feature.

The feature is likely referred to in German as "self-deleting mode," similar to Facebook Messenger, which offers a similar feature. This function allows the chat history to be deleted after the user has viewed it. This is one of the few privacy measures WhatsApp has taken. In addition to this privacy enhancement, the company is working on other features, including a sticker suggestion function and a tool for voice messages. The migration of chat histories between iOS and Android should also be possible at some point. (Photo by Denys Prykhodov / Bigstockphoto)
