Apple has been working on a new version of Siri for some time. It's designed to do more than just answer simple questions—it's designed to understand personal context, respond to on-screen content, and manage tasks across multiple apps. The goal is a more intelligent voice assistant powered by the new Apple Intelligence technology. Development is progressing, although the schedule has shifted.
Tim Cook confirmed in an interview with Reuters that Apple is making "good progress" with personalized Siri. The features were originally unveiled at WWDC 2024. However, in March 2025, Apple announced that the launch would be delayed. A new timeframe was initially not specified—it has now been confirmed that the new Siri features will not be released until 2026. Despite this delay, Apple continues to deliver strong quarterly results.
New Siri should be able to do much more
The new Siri is powered by Apple Intelligence, a proprietary AI platform that handles many processes locally on the device to ensure privacy and security. This not only provides faster answers, but also provides a better understanding of the user and the situation at hand.
- An example from WWDC 2024 shows how this should work: A person asks Siri about their mother's flight and lunch plans. Siri simultaneously accesses information from Mail and Messages, recognizes relevant content, and combines it into an answer – without the user having to manually search for it.
In addition to contextual understanding and screen awareness, Siri should also be able to control individual apps more precisely. This means more complex tasks, more automation, and less typing.
Delay and legal consequences
Despite the announcement receiving considerable attention, Apple postponed the launch of personalized Siri in March 2025. The company didn't provide specific reasons, but the complexity of the technology and the commitment to fully complying with data privacy regulations are considered possible factors. The delay was not without consequences. Several class-action lawsuits were filed , apparently by investors who had misjudged the original schedule. Apple has not yet released any details about the lawsuits publicly.
Apple remains economically strong
Despite the Siri delay, Apple reported strong figures for the third quarter of fiscal year 2025. Revenue was a record $94 billion, demonstrating that the company remains financially stable, even if not all planned innovations reach market immediately.
Apple remains ambitious despite later launch
The personalized Siri is scheduled for release in 2026. An exact date is still pending, but development is ongoing. With Apple Intelligence and the new Siri, Apple is focusing on a combination of AI and data protection that sets it apart from other providers.
