YouTube is now available as an official app for the Apple Vision Pro. This gives the mixed reality headset its first native application for accessing the entire video platform. Previously, YouTube was only accessible via the Safari browser. With the new visionOS app, this changes fundamentally.
The release marks an important step in integrating YouTube into the visionOS ecosystem. At the same time, the app brings technical innovations, including support for 8K videos on newer models.
Ever since the Apple Vision Pro was launched, there has been a desire for a standalone YouTube app. While videos could be played via Safari, a dedicated application was lacking.
In 2024, a third-party app called "Juno" was released for visionOS, enabling access to YouTube. However, this app was removed from the App Store shortly afterward because it violated YouTube's terms of service. Since then, there has been no alternative native solution – until now.
Official YouTube app for visionOS
The new YouTube app is available in the visionOS App Store. It is a standalone application specifically designed for the Apple Vision Pro operating system.
The app is compatible with Apple Vision Pro models equipped with the M2 chip or the newer M5 chip. This means it covers both previous and current generations of devices.
Thanks to its native implementation, the app is directly integrated into visionOS. This ensures optimized display and more stable use compared to the previous browser-based solution.

All YouTube content available
All YouTube content is accessible in the official visionOS app. This includes:
- Classic standard videos
- 180-degree videos
- 360-degree videos
- YouTube Shorts
Especially 180° and 360° content benefits from being displayed in the immersive visionOS environments. Videos can be shown on a large virtual screen, embedded in digital spaces that enhance the viewing experience.
This means that the full range of the platform is also available on the Apple Vision Pro, without any functional limitations.
8K support on the M5 model
One technical highlight concerns playback quality. Apple Vision Pro models with the M5 chip can play YouTube videos in 8K resolution.
This enables particularly detailed displays on large virtual screens within the visionOS environment. The app can also be used on devices with an M2 chip, but without the explicitly mentioned 8K support.
Access to personal content
The app offers full access to your YouTube account. The following features, among others, are available within the application:
- Access to subscriptions
- Using playlists
- View playback history
- Display of personalized recommendations
This means that the range of functions largely corresponds to the familiar YouTube experience on other platforms, but is adapted to the control and display of the Apple Vision Pro.
YouTube is now natively available on the Apple Vision Pro
With the introduction of the official YouTube app on the Apple Vision Pro, the video platform is fully and natively integrated into visionOS for the first time. All video formats are available, personal content can be accessed, and 8K playback is even possible on devices with an M5 chip.
Using Safari is now a thing of the past. The new app offers a direct, system-integrated solution for accessing YouTube content within the immersive visionOS environment.
