iPhone 14 Pro: Camera problems in third-party apps

iPhone 14 Pro owners report problems when recording videos in third-party apps using the camera, with the smartphone producing blurry and shaky recordings.

Apple's update for the iPhone 14 Pro includes a number of camera changes, including a 48-megapixel sensor and an Action Mode that produces smooth video. However, it seems that third-party apps that use the camera are having issues with the new hardware. Some users have noticed the camera module wobble when used in apps like Instagram, Snapchat, and TikTok. As 9to5Mac first reported reported, the issue causes videos recorded with the camera in the apps to fail to publish due to the constant erratic movements. Posts on social media such as Reddit claim that there is a lot of stuttering, which is believed to be a shake in the optical image stabilization (OIS) system. In the case of the iPhone 14 Pro, the 48MP main camera features Apple's second-generation Sensor Shift OIS, which physically moves the sensor, while the other camera uses an older and more conventional OIS system.

iPhone 14 Pro camera: Probably a software problem

Some users report that they can see and hear the shaking and mechanical movement when using the camera features of the third-party app. In a videothat shows the problem, you can see the iPhone moving slightly and making a grinding noise. It is unknown how many iPhones could be affected by the problem. I myself could not reproduce the problem. While the problem occurs with third-party apps, it does not seem to occur when using the standard camera app in iOS 16. This could indicate that there is a software problem that needs to be fixed by the apps in how they communicate and work with the camera module. However, it is also conceivable that Apple will release an update for iOS 16 that fixes the bug. So at this point in time, it is unclear how Apple will react to the phenomenon. (Image: Apple)
