Apple Vision Pro: New measures to convince buyers

The Apple Vision Pro has been on the market for over a year, but sales seem to be falling short of expectations. Although the headset is considered one of Apple's most innovative products, there are two major hurdles: the high price and the lack of content. Now Apple is launching a new strategy to attract more buyers and developers to the Apple Vision Pro. This includes a new visionOS workshop for developers and an app that hints at a possible expansion of distribution through third-party retailers.

When the Apple Vision Pro was introduced, it was already clear that it was a premium product with a correspondingly high price. Even Apple CEO Tim Cook admitted that the device was too expensive to sell in large quantities. In addition, many users see the lack of content on visionOS as a problem. Without enough applications and experiences that fully exploit the headset's potential, it remains an expensive experiment for many rather than a worthwhile investment. Now Apple seems to be working specifically to address these problems. New measures are intended to give developers incentives to create more content for visionOS while at the same time potentially making it easier for third parties to sell the headset.

New measures to revitalize Apple Vision Pro

More content through developer workshops

Apple is increasingly relying on the developer community to improve the range of content available for the Vision Pro. Example The workshop "Create interactive stories for visionOS" is taking place on February 27, 2025 at the Apple Developer Center in Cupertino. This six-hour workshop is aimed at developers who want to create interactive experiences for visionOS. Apple hopes that such initiatives will help make the App Store more attractive for visionOS and make the Apple Vision Pro more interesting for a wider target group.

The AVP Demo Fit app – a reference to third-party providers?

In parallel to the focus on developers, there is another interesting development: Apple has released the "Apple Vision Pro Demo Fit" app in the iOS App Store. This app is currently being rolled out gradually and will be available worldwide in various languages.

The app allows you to perform a facial analysis to determine the ideal fit of the Vision Pro. This includes adjusting the light seal and headband. It is noticeable that the app prompts users to select a location for the purchase. This could indicate that Apple is preparing to allow the Apple Vision Pro to be sold through third-party retailers. Until now, the headset was only available directly from Apple, which severely limited availability. With the support of retailers, the device could be available in more locations, which in turn could lead to better market penetration.

Change in the distribution system: What does this mean for sales?

The introduction The Demo Fit app shows that Apple may be rethinking the sales process. The app explains that the scanned fit results can be sent to the buyer to complete the purchase process. This suggests that retailers or sales staff could use the app to help potential customers purchase the Apple Vision Pro. Until now, testing of the headset has only been possible in Apple Stores, but opening up third-party sales could give more people the opportunity to try out the Vision Pro. This would give retailers the chance to better showcase the product and convince buyers with personal advice. If Apple does make this move official, it could be an important measure to boost stagnant sales.

Apple needs to do more to make the Apple Vision Pro more attractive

The new initiatives show that Apple is not standing idle and is working specifically to better position the Vision Pro. The focus on developers is intended to eliminate the lack of content on visionOS, while a possible expansion of sales via third-party providers could make the headset accessible to more people. It remains to be seen whether these measures will be enough to make the Apple Vision Pro a success. The high price remains a significant hurdle, and it will be crucial whether Apple manages to provide enough content to justify the purchase. An official announcement on the expansion of sales is still pending, but there are strong indications that Apple will soon allow sales through third-party providers. It will be exciting to see what further steps Apple takes to establish the Apple Vision Pro on the market in the long term. (Image: Apfelpatient)
