Apple Vision Pro Dual Knit Band meets with great demand

Apple has equipped the Vision Pro with a new Dual Knit Band, designed to provide improved comfort and a more stable fit. At the same time, a new version of the headset was introduced, featuring the powerful M5 chip. While buyers of the new model receive the band automatically, owners of an older M2 Vision Pro can purchase the accessory separately. Demand is high—the new band is currently sold out.

The Apple Vision Pro is considered the company's most ambitious product to date. With its combination of high-end hardware and immersive software, Apple aims to shift everyday life into the world of mixed reality. However, one of the most common concerns among users has been its comfort. The headset is heavier than traditional VR headsets, and wearing it for extended periods can be tiring. This is precisely where Apple comes in with the new Dual Knit Band – an advancement designed to provide more balance and comfort.

The new Vision Pro with M5 chip and improved accessories

The updated Apple Vision Pro with the M5 chip offers not only more performance but also an ergonomic update. The new Dual Knit Band is included, while the previous model with the M2 chip continues to ship with the Solo Knit Band. Those who own an M2 Vision Pro can order the Dual Knit Band separately for €115.

However, demand is significantly higher than expected. The band is currently sold out for at least a month. New orders are scheduled to ship at the end of November. Depending on demand, the wait time may be longer. Depending on the country, individual Apple Stores may have the accessories in stock as early as October 22nd—the same day sales of the M5 Vision Pro officially begin.

Design, materials and functions of the Dual Knit Band

Apple remains true to its design philosophy, but makes noticeable improvements. Like the Solo Knit Band, the Dual Knit Band is made of a 3D-knitted material that's soft, breathable, and flexible. The difference lies in the construction: instead of a single strap, the new band has two. One attaches to the back of the head as usual, while the second runs across the head. This distributes the weight of the Vision Pro more evenly, reducing pressure on the back of the head and making the headset more stable.

Another detail concerns balance. Tungsten inserts are incorporated into the ribbed rear loop to improve counterweight. This ensures more even load distribution and prevents the headset from tipping forward. Apple uses the Fit Dial for fine-tuning. This allows the tension of both straps to be adjusted separately until the fit is optimal.

The band is available in three sizes—small, medium, and large. To find the right size, Apple uses a simple yet precise method: the iPhone's Face ID camera. This scans the face and automatically recommends the correct band size.

High demand despite higher price

At €115 , the Dual Knit Band isn't exactly a cheap accessory. Nevertheless, the current supply situation shows that it's in high demand. Many M2 Vision Pro owners apparently want to upgrade to the new design to make the headset more comfortable. Waiting times of several weeks confirm this interest.

Apple is likely to address the supply shortages soon, especially after the launch of the M5 Vision Pro. However, the fact that accessories like this are sold out at all demonstrates how crucial comfort and ergonomics are to the user experience.

More balance, less pressure – Apple's next step with the Vision Pro

With the new Dual Knit Band, Apple is placing greater emphasis on comfort and everyday usability. The revised design improves balance, reduces pressure on the head and neck, and makes the Vision Pro more comfortable to wear overall – that's the promise. Combined with the new M5 chip, this creates a combination of performance and ergonomics that significantly enhances the headset.

The high demand shows that Apple has hit the right note with this change. The Dual Knit Band may be just an accessory, but it's a crucial component for a better user experience.

Even though the Dual Knit Band is currently hard to come by, I ordered one in time. This despite the fact that the previous Solo Knit Band worked surprisingly well for me and is arguably one of the most controversial accessories. So, I'm clearly in the minority who liked the original design. Nevertheless, the new version seems like the logical next step. Perhaps it truly complements the Vision Pro the way Apple intended. I'm quite curious to see how big a difference it really makes in everyday life. When it's available, I might even write a short review.
