Apple is once again surprising its users with exciting news. The Apple Watch Series 9 and Apple Watch Ultra 2 will soon receive four new features that will take the user experience to a whole new level. Although these models were launched last year, Apple is showing with these innovative updates that there is still a lot of potential.

Since its launch, the Apple Watch has become an essential gadget for many tech-savvy users. It combines fitness tracking, communication and health technologies in one small, wearable device. Apple expanded Apple Watch is continually improving its functionality, and this time a software update brings some exciting new features to the Apple Watch Series 9 and Apple Watch Ultra 2. Although the exact release dates are not yet confirmed, the features are expected to arrive with the upcoming watchOS 11 or a later update. Now let's take a closer look at the new features.

sleep apnea notifications

One of the most significant new features is the ability of Apple Watch Series 9 and Ultra 2 to detect signs of sleep apnea. This feature uses the built-in accelerometer to monitor breathing disturbances during sleep. If a user shows signs of moderate to severe sleep apnea, they will be notified. This feature is still subject to FDA approval, but is expected to be available in 2024.

  • What does this mean for you? If you have trouble sleeping at night or have pauses in your breathing, this feature could help detect potential health problems early. You will not only receive notifications, but also health information and a report that you can share with your doctor.

Improvements to the action button

Owners of the Apple Watch Ultra 2 can also look forward to improvements to the action button. This button, which is already versatile, has additional functions. For example, you can now switch between different sports, use voice memos and Shazam with just one button press.

  • Why is this useful? The new action button gives you more flexibility and control over your watch. Whether you want to change sport mode during a workout or quickly activate the flashlight, it's all just a button press away.

Tides app

There is a new app for everyone who enjoys being outdoors: The Tides app. Originally developed for the Apple Watch Series 10, it will now also be available for the Ultra 2. It shows you seven-day forecasts for coastal conditions, including information on low tide, high tide and tide heights. The display on a timeline is particularly useful, making it easier to plan activities such as surfing or sailing.

  • How can this app help you? If you are planning a day at the beach or a kayaking trip, you are well prepared with the Tides app. You can see the tides and sunrise and sunset times at a glance so you can plan your activities optimally.

audio playback via integrated speakers

Last but not least, there is a feature that will delight music lovers. The Apple Watch Ultra 2 will soon be able to play audio directly through the integrated speakers. Until now, these were only used for calls and notifications, but now you can listen to your favorite music or podcasts without the need for Bluetooth headphones.

  • What's in it for you? Whether you're out jogging or just want to listen to something quickly without using your headphones, the ability to play audio directly through the watch speakers gives you even more flexibility.

The best is yet to come: Apple Watch Series 9 and Ultra 2 in focus

With these four new features, Apple shows once again that it understands the needs of its users and is constantly working on innovative solutions. Whether you want to better monitor your health, always be well informed during outdoor activities or simply want more flexibility in operating your Apple Watch - the upcoming updates for the Apple Watch Series 9 and Ultra 2 offer something for everyone. So keep an eye out for the next software update and discover the new possibilities that your Apple Watch can offer you. (Image: Apple)
