The iPhone 16 improves wireless charging with improved MagSafe technology. With the right accessories, you can charge your iPhone 16 even faster and more efficiently.

Since the introduction of MagSafe with the iPhone 12, Apple has been working steadily to further develop this technology. With the new iPhone 16 and iPhone 16 Pro, Apple has taken wireless charging to the next level. The main goal: to charge your iPhone in the shortest possible time without having to resort to conventional cables.

What is MagSafe and how does it work?

MagSafe is a magnetic charging system that connects to the charger via a magnetic ring on the back of the iPhone. The precise alignment ensures that your iPhone sits optimally on the charger, resulting in a more efficient charging speed. While previous MagSafe chargers offer up to 15W of charging power, with the new iPhone 16 and the matching MagSafe charger, you can benefit from an impressive charging power of up to 25W - provided you use the right accessories, such as a 30W USB-C power adapter. This means that you can charge your iPhone 16 to 50 % in just 30 minutes - a significant improvement over previous models.

The importance of the right accessories

To achieve maximum charging power, you need the right accessories. The new MagSafe charger in combination with a 30W USB-C power adapter plays a crucial role here. Apple states that only with this combination can the maximum charging speed be achieved. A conventional 20W power adapter still offers fast wireless charging of up to 15W, but you can only use the full power of the iPhone 16 with the 30W power adapter. The new MagSafe charger comes with a 1 meter USB-C cable as standard. If that's not enough, there is a 2 meter option that gives you more flexibility in placing your iPhone while charging.

MagSafe vs. Qi2

The question of the difference between MagSafe and Qi2 comes up frequently. Qi2 is an industry-wide standard for wireless charging that has similar magnetic alignment features to MagSafe but is more universal and was not developed just for Apple devices. MagSafe, on the other hand, is Apple's own technology that is based on the Qi2 standard and has optimized it. This means that MagSafe offers the best results especially with Apple products such as the iPhone 16. Another advantage of MagSafe is its compatibility with Apple's MagSafe accessories, such as cases and wallets, which magnetically attach to your device and also ensure secure handling.

MagSafe and older iPhones

If you have an older iPhone, like the iPhone 8 or a model before the iPhone 12 series, you can also benefit from MagSafe technology - but with some limitations. For older iPhones, MagSafe offers wireless charging speeds of up to 7.5W, which is still a convenient way to charge, but doesn't come close to the speed of the iPhone 16.

Price and availability

Apple’s new MagSafe charger is for 49 euros and represents an investment that is particularly worthwhile for owners of the iPhone 16 and iPhone 16 Pro. Thanks to the improved charging speed and compatibility with other accessories, it offers a user-friendly and efficient solution for daily charging.

iPhone 16 and MagSafe: The perfect combination for fast wireless charging

The iPhone 16 and the new MagSafe charger form an unbeatable team when it comes to charging your device quickly and easily. The new improvements, such as increasing the charging speed to 25W, make wireless charging more attractive than ever. With the right accessories, you can ensure that your iPhone 16 is always ready to go without having to put up with long charging times. MagSafe remains the benchmark by which other wireless chargers must be measured - and with the introduction of Qi2, the future of wireless charging is even more exciting. (Image: Apple)
