Rumors about new iPhone models are an integral part of the Apple cosmos. But what about reports about new Apple Watch models? This year, things are actually looking good. I have summarized what the Apple Watch Series 6 could offer below. Questions about watchOS 7 functions and compatibility with older Watch models may already have an answer.
Such summaries are usually only worthwhile if there have actually been some reports. So far, this has not been the case in the Apple Watch segment. But this year is different. As some of you already know, an early version of iOS 14 into the wild. Thanks to this, some watchOS 7 features were revealed in advance. But there are also isolated reports about the next Apple Watch generation. That's why I'm now summarizing everything about watchOS 7 and the Apple Watch Series 6. The biggest innovation in the Apple Watch Series 5 is definitely the "Always-On Display". A function that makes an Apple Watch a "real" watch. But the jump from the Apple Watch Series 4 to the 5 was otherwise very meager. That's why expectations for the Apple Watch Series 6 have become enormous. It also seems as if Apple wants to penetrate deeper into the healthcare sector with the new Watch generation. But more on that later.
Apple Watch Series 6 – The Design
The design question continues to be of great importance to many users. While the majority of fans like the current model, others want a round Apple Watch. But in this case, this cannot be discussed, as it is a matter of personal taste. For the Apple Watch Series 6, there are unlikely to be any changes in terms of form factor. This means that it will most likely follow the Series 4 and 5. However, there could be a lot of changes visually. While the titanium case was introduced for the first time last year, something new could be added this year. Existing versions could also receive new color options. The same applies to the straps.
Apple Watch Series 6 – Health
In contrast to the outside, there is likely to be a lot more going on inside. While the ECG function in the Apple Watch Series 4 was the highlight, the Apple Watch Series 6 could set new standards with the detection of the oxygen content in the blood. The leaked iOS 14 code contains clear indications that point to such a feature. But how exactly would the measurement work? While an oxygen saturation of the blood between 94 and 98 percent is considered normal, values below this limit can become problematic. A lack of oxygen in the blood can impair heart and brain function. This means that if the values are not in the normal range, the Apple Watch will notify the user - similar to the watchOS heart rate reporting function. In addition, an improved version of the existing ECG function This means that, according to the iOS 14 code, the ECG measurement should be even more accurate. However, it remains unclear whether the ECG improvement is hardware-based or can also be implemented on the Series 4 and 5 via a software update (watchOS 7). The same applies to the detection of the oxygen content in the blood. It can almost be assumed that this feature will be an Apple Watch Series 6 exclusive. After all, users of an Apple Watch Series 4 or 5 or older must be given a reason to upgrade.
Apple Watch Series 6 – Sleep monitoring
The "sleep monitoring" feature has been requested by many Apple Watch users for years. Now it seems as if the time has come. The first hints and leaks of such a function were discovered last year. Reports on the subject have also suggested that it will be introduced this year. But what exactly does "sleep monitoring" do? The Apple Watch is supposed to record the user's sleep quality with the help of numerous sensors, including the person's movement, heart rate and noise. The stored data is then forwarded to the Health app and a new Sleep application. There, the user can access and evaluate it at any time. The biggest question remains, however - how does Apple plan to reconcile all of this with battery life? According to some reports, there is a simple answer to this - reminders. This means that the Apple Watch will remind the user in good time to charge the battery before going to sleep in order to be able to start sleep monitoring. But will the function be part of the watchOS 7 update and thus also available on older devices, or will it remain an Apple Watch Series 6 exclusive? No one can answer that question with certainty at this point, although Bloomberg claims that the feature is tied to new hardware, meaning anyone wanting the feature may have to buy a new Apple Watch.
New watchOS 7 features
But in the wake of the iOS 14 leak wave, features were also revealed under watchOS 7 that will probably not be exclusive to Apple Watch Series 6. For example, we can expect a new watch face from the Infograph series called "Infograph Pro". This is to have a so-called tachymeter. A tachymeter is an analog clock that is positioned around the actual watch face and enables the measurement of speed and distance based on travel time. It can therefore be assumed that the feature will also be available for the Apple Watch Series 4 and Series 5. There will also be a watch face called "International". If the user chooses this, they can choose between various country flags. Another watchOS 7 function will be "School Time". This means that parents can adapt the child's Apple Watch to school time and thus decide which functions will ultimately be available during this phase. watchOS 7 – These Apple Watch models are said to be compatible
The question of whether my Apple Watch will support the new watchOS 7 is primarily asked by users of an older generation. The same game is played every year with regard to the iPhone and iOS. But let's stick with watchOS 7. According to a report at the end of March, the Apple Watch Series 2 will no longer be supported by watchOS 7. If the report If this is actually true, then logically the Series 1 will also be cancelled. However, we will get an answer to this question in June, when the WWDC 2020 took place. As part of this developer fair – which is being held digitally this year – Apple traditionally presents the new operating systems and answers compatibility questions, among other things.
Apple Watch Series 6 & watchOS 7 – Prices and Availability
Of course, no one can predict with any certainty what the new Apple Watch generation will cost. However, interested parties can base their decision on the current prices of the Apple Watch Series 5. Major deviations are unlikely. In terms of the presentation, an answer should not be difficult. Apple usually presents new Apple Watch models every September together with the new iPhone generation. Whether this will be the case this year remains to be seen. The Corona crisis has also hit Apple's development process for new devices "hard". So a delay cannot be ruled out, of course. As far as watchOS 7 is concerned, the Apple Watch operating system will be released together with iOS 14 and Co. New software updates usually appear in September or October. Most of what I have listed in this article was revealed based on an iOS 14 leak. Since none of this has been officially confirmed, you should, as always, view the whole thing with skepticism.
