Apple has released the first beta version of iOS 26.2, introducing several interesting changes. Besides minor adjustments to Apple News, Apple Podcasts, and the experimental Liquid Glass, there's an update that's particularly important for Apple Music users: the ability to finally access song lyrics offline.

Song lyrics have been a core feature of Apple Music since 2016. In recent years, Apple has continuously expanded the feature – with live lyrics, a karaoke mode, translations, and a search function. However, a stable internet connection has always been required. Without Wi-Fi or a cellular network, lyrics couldn't be displayed, even if the song itself was downloaded. This changes with iOS 26.2.

Offline lyrics in Apple Music

The beta version of iOS 26.2 introduces support for offline lyrics for the first time. When songs or albums are downloaded for offline playback, Apple Music now also saves the corresponding lyrics locally on the device. This makes all familiar lyrics features available even without an internet connection. These include:

  • Synchronized live lyrics that move to the beat of the music
  • the karaoke mode with highlighted lyrics
  • the search function within song lyrics
  • Translations of songs in foreign languages

This update addresses one of Apple Music's most frequently cited weaknesses. On platforms like Reddit, the desire for offline access to song lyrics has been voiced repeatedly for years. Now Apple is responding and closing a gap that has long bothered many users.

Why offline song lyrics are important

Offline lyrics are especially useful when no internet connection is available. Anyone listening to music on a plane, train, or in areas with poor reception can now still read along with the lyrics. This is also a clear advantage in regions where mobile data is slow or unreliable.

Previously, song lyrics would simply remain blank in such situations, even if the music files had already been downloaded. iOS 26.2 therefore provides more independence and convenience when listening to music.

Advantages over Spotify

With its new offline feature, Apple Music gains another advantage over Spotify, which still requires an active internet connection to display song lyrics. The iOS 26.2 update makes Apple Music more flexible in this regard and noticeably improves the overall experience – especially for those who regularly listen offline.

Further changes in iOS 26.2

In addition to the new feature in Apple Music, iOS 26.2 also brings minor adjustments to other Apple services. Apple News has had its layout and navigation redesigned, podcasts have received optimized playback controls, and Apple is apparently testing new visual effects in Liquid Glass. These changes are currently only available to developers in the beta version.

Apple Music in iOS 26.2: A small detail with a big impact

With iOS 26.2, Apple introduces a feature that may seem insignificant at first glance, but makes a noticeable difference in everyday use. Offline lyrics in Apple Music are a small but meaningful improvement that makes the music experience more complete and independent.

Whether traveling, in areas without network coverage, or simply for peace of mind – anyone listening to songs offline will now always have the complete lyrics at their fingertips. iOS 26.2 ensures that Apple Music users can finally access all lyrics features even without an internet connection. This update was long overdue and demonstrates that Apple continues to refine the details that make all the difference.
