iOS 26.2: Freeform app gets table functionality

With the update to iOS 26.2, Apple introduces a practical new feature that is particularly interesting for users of the Freeform app. In the latest beta version, the company is bringing tables into the app for the first time. This expands Freeform's already extensive toolset with a function that provides more structure to creative work.

Freeform is Apple's digital canvas for creative projects and collaboration. The app offers an open workspace where various types of content, such as photos, drawings, links, files, and notes, can be freely arranged. It's designed for anyone who wants to visually represent ideas and develop them collaboratively—for example, during brainstorming sessions, sketching, or planning. In earlier versions of iOS, including iOS 26.1, Freeform was already versatile, but lacked the ability to structure data in tabular form. With iOS 26.2, this changes: tables are now an integral part of the app.

New table function in Freeform

In iOS 26.2 Beta 1, Apple added a table function to the Freeform app. This allows users to create tables directly within Freeform, which, like all other elements, can be freely positioned on the canvas. Tables can be created in various sizes, and the cells can be individually filled with text or lists.

The interface is as simple as ever. A new table can be added via the attachment screen. Its size can then be adjusted by dragging the corner handles. New rows and columns are added using clearly visible plus buttons, making the process particularly straightforward.

This addition integrates seamlessly into Freeform's existing concept. Previously, various types of content could be combined on the canvas – such as hand-drawn sketches, images, stickers, videos, lists, or formatted text. With the introduction of tables, the app becomes even more versatile and is now better suited for structured presentations, planning, or data overviews.

More structure in creative work

The new feature demonstrates Apple's intention to further develop Freeform not only as a creative tool but also as an organizational one. Tables bring order to the otherwise boundless canvas. They are ideal for keeping tasks, schedules, or project data organized without interrupting the creative flow.

Freeform remains true to its core principle: all content can be freely combined and arranged as desired. This allows you to supplement a table with handwritten notes, photos, or drawings. This flexibility sets Freeform apart from traditional note-taking or spreadsheet apps.

iOS 26.2 strengthens Freeform as a creative and planning tool

With iOS 26.2, Freeform receives a meaningful update that rounds out the app's functionality. The new table feature significantly expands its range of uses – from idea generation and brainstorming to structured planning. Even though the update is still in beta testing, it already indicates that Apple intends to develop Freeform into a fully-fledged tool for creative and productive work in the long term.

iOS 26.2 brings not just a minor update, but real added value for everyone who regularly works in Freeform. Tables provide a better overview and make the app more versatile without changing its ease of use.
