Apple is bringing the next major technological leap to market with the new 14-inch MacBook Pro and the M5 chip. The new processor delivers significantly greater performance for AI workflows, more efficient graphics processing, faster storage, and longer battery life. With up to 24 hours of battery life, macOS Tahoe, and enhanced Apple Intelligence features, the 14-inch MacBook Pro is the most versatile and powerful laptop Apple has ever built.

The 14-inch MacBook Pro with the M5 chip is the next evolution in Apple's Pro line. The M5 offers up to 3.5x faster AI performance than the M4, up to 1.6x better graphics performance, and a CPU with the world's fastest core to date. At the same time, the system is more energy efficient and enables up to 24 hours of battery life. Add to that macOS Tahoe, which brings new features for productivity, AI, and personalization. The result is a device that makes professional workflows, creative projects, and AI applications even smoother and faster.

M5 Chip: More power for everything

The M5 chip is the central advancement in the new 14-inch MacBook Pro. Featuring a next-generation 10-core GPU, each with its own neural accelerator, the chip delivers up to 3.5x better AI performance than the M4 and up to 6x better results than the M1. The CPU operates with 20 percent greater multithreaded performance, enabling smoother processing of large data sets, parallel work in multiple apps, and fast code compilation.

The 16-core Neural Engine in the M5 accelerates machine learning directly on the device and improves AI-based workflows such as deep learning, language model processing, and text-to-image generation. AI tools and local language models run significantly faster without having to outsource data to the cloud.

Graphics, memory and performance

The new MacBook Pro delivers up to 1.6x faster graphics performance in professional apps and up to 1.6x higher frame rates in games compared to the M4 generation. 3D rendering in Blender is up to 6.8x faster than on the M1 model. AI-powered video enhancement in Topaz Video is also up to 7.7x faster than on the 13-inch MacBook Pro with M1.

The SSD is twice as fast as its predecessor, enabling faster importing of RAW files and exporting of large video files. The shared memory achieves a bandwidth of 150 GB/s, which is particularly advantageous when working with large AI models or complex 3D scenes. Configurations with up to 4 TB of storage are available.

Battery life and energy efficiency

The 14-inch MacBook Pro with M5 offers up to 24 hours of battery life, the longest ever in a Pro model. Performance remains as strong on battery power as it is on AC power—a clear advantage over many Windows laptops. Users upgrading from an M1 or an Intel processor will benefit from up to four additional hours of battery life over the M1 and up to 14 additional hours over Intel systems. With fast charging, the battery reaches 50 percent in just 30 minutes.

Comparison to older models

Compared to MacBook Pro models with Intel processors, the new M5 model offers up to 86x faster AI performance, up to 30x better graphics with ray tracing, and up to 5.5x faster CPU performance. Compared to the M1, the M5 delivers up to 6x faster AI processing, 6.8x better graphics performance, and twice the CPU cores.

Display, camera and sound

The 14" Liquid Retina XDR display remains one of the best on the market. It achieves 1,600 nits of peak brightness for HDR content and up to 1,000 nits for SDR. Nano-textured glass is optionally available to reduce reflections. The display supports up to two high-resolution external monitors.

The 12-megapixel camera with Center Stage automatically adjusts the image during video calls, while studio-quality microphones ensure clear sound. The 6-speaker system delivers immersive 3D audio, perfect for music, movies, and editing.

macOS Tahoe and Apple Intelligence

With macOS Tahoe, the MacBook Pro leverages the full potential of the M5. The system brings new features like a redesigned Spotlight search that can perform actions directly—like writing an email or creating a note. Phone app integration enables calls and voicemails directly from the Mac.

The new design with Liquid Glass, a redesigned Control Center, and customizable app icons allows for greater personalization. The menu bar is transparent, making the screen appear larger.

Apple Intelligence extends on-device AI capabilities. Live translation is integrated into Messages, FaceTime, and the Phone app, shortcuts can be automated with smart actions, and developers can integrate Apple Intelligence models directly into their apps.

Sustainability and environmental aspects

The new 14-inch MacBook Pro with M5 is made from 45 percent recycled materials, including fully recycled aluminum in the chassis, recycled rare earth metals in the magnets, and recycled cobalt in the battery. It's manufactured using 55 percent renewable electricity, and its packaging is 100 percent fiber-based and fully recyclable. It's designed for durability, meets high energy efficiency standards, and uses safe materials free of harmful chemicals.

Availability and price

The 14-inch MacBook Pro with M5 is available for pre-order now and will be available starting October 22nd. It will be available in Space Black and Silver. The starting price is €1,799 including VAT, or €1,679 for education. Additional specifications, configuration options, and accessories are available on Apple's website.

The new MacBook Pro: Progress without compromise

The new 14-inch MacBook Pro with the M5 chip demonstrates how far Apple is pushing laptop development. It combines tremendous performance with high energy efficiency, outstanding graphics, AI support, and a sophisticated operating system. With up to 24 hours of battery life, a brilliant display, and cutting-edge hardware, it's a sophisticated upgrade for anyone who demands maximum performance in a compact space. The MacBook Pro remains the benchmark among professional laptops—now with more power for AI, creativity, and efficiency than ever before. (Image: Apple)
