Rumors about new Mac devices have been documented for some time. Now images have been provided showing a Mac mini with a brand new design.

Rumour has it that Apple is planning a redesign of the Mac mini in addition to the iMac and MacBook series. Now Youtuber Jon Prosser has spoken out and posted pictures presented, which are based on prototypes. In the past, this company has already revealed the design of the AirTags, AirPods Max and the new iMac 24". For this reason, the whole thing can of course be taken more seriously. According to the latest report, the next version of the Mac mini could have more than just an improvement in specifications. According to the renderings, the device could get a thinner case that uses the same magnetic power connector as the 24-inch iMac.

M1X chip, flat & with magnetic power connector

For the first version of the Mac mini, Apple decided to reuse its tried and tested and well-worn design for the Mac, but with new innards. For the next version, Apple could make some major changes to the compact computer and also use the "M1X" chip. According to the images, which are based on prototypes, Apple will take advantage of the small size of the internal components in the Mac mini to make the chassis thinner. The result is a flatter Mac mini that appears to have the same desk space requirements as previous models. On the back, Apple will apparently continue to offer a variety of ports, including four USB 4 Thunderbolt 3 ports, two USB-A ports, Gigabit Ethernet and HDMI. There is also the magnetic, round power connector, as used on the 24-inch iMac.

Will Apple offer the Mac mini in different colors?

The use of the magnetic connector could also suggest that Apple is using an external power supply for the Mac mini rather than internalizing it. If this is true, Apple may have made a similar move to the iMac by putting the Gigabit Ethernet port on the power brick to save a bit more space on the back of the Mac mini itself. In addition to being thinner, the chassis will also feature a new design with aluminum sides but a "plexiglass-like" top. Color options could also come - but this is not certain. The usual round base of the Mac mini will reportedly be replaced by a pair of rubber strips. The air vent, which is usually located on the back near the ports, has been moved to the base.
