iOS 15 feature

In just under two weeks, Apple will officially present iOS 15 and Co. at WWDC 2021. Many new features are expected. Now there is a new report that relates to nutrition.

Surprisingly, we have heard very little about the new iOS 15 update so far. Last year there was a huge software leak regarding iOS 14, which revealed many parts of the new operating system in advance. This was made possible by an iPhone 11 Pro with an internal iOS 14 build that was sold on the black market. This year, things seem to be going differently - Apple was obviously more cautious. But today there is a little information. An unverified source who spoke to the author this week Connor Jewiss revealed some possible new features we could expect in iOS 15.

iOS 15: Will the Health app be able to track nutrition?

No screenshots are available but Jewiss claims he has "seen" iOS 15. Jewiss hints that Apple plans to add a new food tracking feature to the Health app, but it is unclear how extensive this feature could be. The feature could allow users to log the food they consume, providing nutritional information and a calorie tracking feature. It is unknown if users will have to enter all the information manually or if Apple is working on some sort of food database. The source claims that we could also see changes to the user interface, which are shown in screenshots of accessibility features spotted that are believed to be coming to iOS 15.

Apple could revise notifications system-wide

There could also be some minor dark mode tweaks to the various color options, such as iMessage bubbles and changes to the way notifications are grouped on the lock screen. Jewiss also hinted at unspecified tweaks to the Messages app, with little additional information provided about these features. This was already touched upon by Bloomberg in a previous report. Additionally, the news site explained that there will be notification updates that allow users to set notification preferences based on their current status. For example, as described by Bloomberg, users will be able to customize how notifications are delivered, i.e. when they are awake, working, sleeping, and more.

iOS 15 rumors: Are they the same source?

In a separate report, Oliver Haslam of iMore confirmed Jewiss' report and says he has received similar information, though he points out that it's a "new source," so some of what was hinted at may not turn out to be true. It's unclear if this information came from a single source who spoke to both Jewiss and Haslam, or was spread by two different sources. Haslam's information is largely the same, though he does say there will be a new look for the lock screen that is "complication-based." More details about iOS 15 may leak out as the World Wide Developers Conference approaches. If so, I'll of course report on it as usual. (Photo by nikkimeel / Bigstockphoto)
