SharePlay: How to share your screen on macOS Monterey 12.1

MYKOLAIV, UKRAINE - JULY 20, 2020: iPhone 11 and MacBook on wooden table, closeup

In macOS Monterey 12.1, Apple introduced the new SharePlay feature for FaceTime. Previously only available on iPhone and iPad, SharePlay lets you share your Mac's screen with other people during a FaceTime call, opening up new ways to connect with friends, family, and colleagues.

Thanks to SharePlay, you and other people on the same FaceTime call can listen to music or watch TV shows and movies together. You can even share your screen or a specific app window on your Mac desktop with your callers to discuss work, provide remote technical support, or just to look at a photo album together.

SharePlay: Share screen in FaceTime on macOS Monterey 12.1

  • Start FaceTime on your Mac.
  • Select the contacts you want to call and start the video call.
  • Once connected, click the Share/Play button in the control overlay.
  • To share your entire screen or a specific window, click either Window or Screen in the drop-down menu on the FaceTime menu bar. If you chose Window, click the window you want to share.
  • To stop sharing the window or screen, click Stop Sharing Window/Screen in the FaceTime menu bar drop-down list and you can change the shared window.
  • When you share a window, you can also click the Share button in the upper-right corner of the window to access three options: stop sharing the window, change the shared window, and share the entire display.

The introduction of SharePlay on the Mac also means, as mentioned above, that you can listen to music or watch movies and series together via FaceTime and all participants see the same synchronized playback and controls. Anyone who joins such a session via iPhone or iPad If you want to connect your iPad to the iPhone, you need iOS 15.1 / iPadOS 15.1 or later. Are you looking for new accessories?
