The new iOS 13 and iPadOS have a lot of new features for iPhone and iPad on board, but not everything is visible at first glance. How are app updates done? This question is being asked very often at the moment - we'll show you.
Apple has done a great job with iOS 13 and iPadOS - never before has an update been so eagerly awaited as this year. While many new functions have been added, many changes have also been made to the system. Unfortunately, one important area in the App Store has been somewhat "lost" - app updates. Where the "Updates" area used to be, there is now Apple's new gaming service Apple Arcade. It should be said at this point that the changeover has actually been a success if you know where to look. However - in order to manually update applications on the iPhone and iPad under iOS 13 or iPadOS, you now have to click one more time.
How to update apps under iOS 13 or iPadOS
First of all – the process we describe is the same on iPad and iPhone – there are no differences here. Open the App Store app and navigate to the profile picture of your Apple ID in the top right corner. Done, right? Almost. A new window will open with various menu items. Initially with your own Apple ID, followed by the areas Purchases, Subscriptions, Redeem card or code and more. Further down you will see the section “Upcoming automatic updates / Available updates”. All app updates under iOS 13 or iPadOS are collected here – if you have deactivated the “Automatically update” function, you can control the updates yourself from here. Directly below is the “Recently updated” area. Here users can view the individual app updates and their associated details. By the way – this is how you activate “Automatic updates”: Open the settings of your device and navigate to the menu item “iTunes & App Store” further down.
In the “Automatic Downloads” section, you can activate “App Updates”. The iPhone or iPad automatically updates all applications in the background – provided you are in a WiFi network – unless you have changed your settings, see iOS 13 – How to manage the data limit for cellular downloads on iPhone & iPad.
Did you know? iOS 13 includes fundamental performance and system improvements. Apps load twice as fast and use 50 percent less memory. App updates are around 60 percent smaller. Crazy, right?! (Photo by HalfPoint / Bigstockphoto)
