With iOS 18, Apple is launching a variety of new features designed to improve the user experience. One of the most innovative and, for many users, most significant innovations concerns accessibility: Vehicle Motion Alerts. This feature aims to prevent feelings of dizziness that can arise from using an iPhone or iPad while driving. In this article, you will learn how this feature works, how to activate it and what benefits it offers.

Feeling dizzy when reading or watching content on a mobile device while driving is a common problem. It is caused by a sensory conflict between what you see and what you feel. Apple has recognized this problem and developed a solution with iOS 18. Vehicle Motion Alerts use visual elements that represent real-time changes in motion to reduce the sensory conflict. This allows you to use your device comfortably even while driving.

How vehicle movement instructions work

The vehicle motion cues in the new iPhone and iPad update are specifically designed to reduce the sensory conflict that causes dizziness. They do this by displaying animated dots on the edges of the screen that reflect the movement of the vehicle, helping your brain to better synchronize visual and physical movement. Apple explains:

Using sensors built into iPhone and iPad, the feature detects when a user is in a moving vehicle and responds accordingly. The feature can be set to appear automatically on iPhone, or it can be turned on and off in Control Center.

Activation of the function

To enable vehicle motion alerts, you can follow these steps:

  • Open Control Center with a diagonal swipe from the top-right corner of the screen (or from the bottom up if your iPhone has a Home button).
  • Press and hold anywhere in Control Center to open Customization mode, then tap Add Control at the bottom.
  • Swipe up to the Vision Accessibility controls and select Vehicle Motion Alerts.
  • Press and hold anywhere in Control Center to exit customization mode.
  • Tap the Vehicle Motion Alerts button and select On or In Vehicle Only.

benefits and advantages

Using vehicle movement information offers several advantages:

  • Reduction of dizziness: The visual support minimizes the risk of dizziness so you can use your iPhone or iPad comfortably while driving.
  • Easy activation: The feature can be easily turned on and off via the Control Center, allowing for quick customization.
  • Automatic detection: If you choose the automatic option, your device will automatically detect when you are in a vehicle and activate the function accordingly.

Vehicle motion alerts: More comfort while driving thanks to iOS 18

With the new "Vehicle Motion Alerts" feature in iOS 18, Apple is once again demonstrating its commitment to improving accessibility and user comfort. This feature offers an innovative solution to an everyday problem and allows you to use your device while driving without any unpleasant side effects. Try it out and experience for yourself how this small but effective innovation can make your everyday life easier. Are you looking for new accessories? Visit our Amazon Storefront!
