Apple's WWDC (Worldwide Developers Conference) is one of the most significant annual events in the technology world. Developers and Apple fans from all over the world eagerly await the keynote to find out what innovations and new products will be unveiled. However, this year there are interesting predictions from Mark Gurman, a renowned analyst at Bloomberg. According to Gurman, there will be no new hardware announcements at WWDC 2024.

Apple is known for delighting its fans with new products and groundbreaking technologies. The WWDC keynotes are traditionally the moment when new software versions see the light of day. But Apple often also presents new hardware products. However, Mark Gurman, a reliable insider in the Apple world, has in his current Power On newsletter betrayedthat no new hardware products will be unveiled at WWDC this year. This news has caused both surprise and disappointment, especially among those who were hoping for the next Apple TV.

Gurman: No hardware at WWDC 2024

Mark Gurman has made it clear that he does not expect any new hardware announcements at the upcoming WWDC 2024 on June 10. He writes:

No hardware announcements are made at WWDC unless Apple unexpectedly announces a new device that will be released later (to be clear: I don't expect that).

This statement by Gurman contradicts many rumors and expectations prior to the conference.

The next Apple TV: A look into the future

According to Gurman, a new Apple TV model is "not imminent," although previous reports suggested a release was planned for the first half of 2024. The last Apple TV model, the third-generation Apple TV 4K, was unveiled in October 2022. Here's a look at the release dates for the last five models:

  • Third-generation Apple TV 4K: October 2022
  • Second-generation Apple TV 4K: April 2021
  • First generation Apple TV 4K: September 2017
  • Apple TV HD: September 2015
  • Third generation Apple TV: March 2012

Rumors and speculations about the new Apple TV

The rumor mill continues to churn, with speculation abounding about the upcoming Apple TV. The next model is expected to have a faster processor than the current A15 Bionic chip and a lower price tag. Well-known Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo suggests the starting price could be $99.

Visions of the future: Apple TV with built-in camera?

Interestingly, Gurman mentioned that Apple is considering adding a built-in camera to future Apple TV models. This could be in conjunction with the new FaceTime app in tvOS 17, which allows users to make video calls through the TV. Currently, this requires using the rear camera of a connected iPhone or iPad. A built-in camera in the Apple TV could greatly improve this experience and open up new ways to use the device.

WWDC 2024: Focus on software, excitement for Apple TV

Even though WWDC 2024 may not have any new hardware surprises in store, the excitement surrounding Apple's future developments remains. The next Apple TV is eagerly awaited, and rumors of better processors, lower prices, and new features like an integrated camera are fueling anticipation. Stay tuned for future announcements and developments that are sure to cause a stir again. In the meantime, we can look forward to what software innovations Apple will present at WWDC 2024.
