While Mac users are waiting for Apple to introduce the first M2 models this year, the company seems to already be working on the next generation: M3 and an iMac Pro could hit the market in 2023.
Apple is expected to launch new Macs with M2 chips in 2022. But apparently Apple is already testing the third generation of the Apple Silicon processor. According to Mark Gurman in Bloomberg newsletter According to "Power On," an M3 chip is "already in the works" and is currently being tested. Although Gurman doesn't provide details about the chip's features, he expects it to launch "at the earliest by the end of next year," meaning late 2023.
An iMac Pro is also said to be in the works
Gurman added that he still believes "an iMac Pro will come. It just won't be anytime soon." The iMac Pro was a powerful alternative to the iMac. Rumors suggest a reissue of the model with a backlit mini-LED display will arrive in 2022. Regarding the M2 roadmap, Gurman foresees an M2 release in a new MacBook Air, an entry-level MacBook Pro, and a Mac mini. M2 Pro and M2 Max chips are expected for the updated 14-inch MacBook Pro and 16-inch MacBook Pro, as well as a dual M2 Ultra chip for the Mac Pro. (Image: rendersbyian)
