MacBook Mini LED displays

Saint-Petersburg, Russia - March 3, 2021: Beautiful girl, young woman freelancer is working on her laptop computer Apple MacBook Pro or Air, typing on keyboard. Freelance distant job, work concept.

Apple is rumored to be planning to introduce redesigned 14- and 16-inch MacBook Pro models with mini-LED displays, but the notebooks may arrive later than expected.

While several sources, including the incisive analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, have suggested that Apple plans to launch the new MacBook Pro models in the second half of 2021, Taiwanese supply chain news website DigiTimes now claims that the launch of MacBooks with mini-LED displays could possibly be delayed until “sometime in 2022.” The full report has not yet been published. But the paid preview the following emerges:

Launch of MacBooks with mini-LED backlighting could be delayed. The launch of Apple's MacBook series with mini-LED backlighting could be delayed until 2022, according to industry sources.

Possible reason for the delay: chip shortage or problems with mini-LEDs

No further details are available at this time, but the full report should be published by tomorrow. If there is anything else worth mentioning, we will update the article or publish a separate post - depending on the amount of detail. In early March, the Japanese publication Nikkei Asia reported that Apple has pushed back mass production of two new MacBook models from May or June to the second half of the year, which could be a factor in the potential launch delay. The ongoing global chip shortage could have something to do with it. The new MacBook Pro models are expected to be powered by an improved iteration of Apple's own M1 chip. In case Apple has problems producing notebook-sized mini-LED displays, Apple could certainly update the existing MacBook Pro with Apple silicon this year as a stopgap measure. It remains unclear whether the company would take that step. (Photo by Dorieugene / Bigstockphoto)
