Apple's second and third chip versions of the M2 generation could hit the market in just a few months. According to a report, the MacBook Pro models equipped with the M2 Pro and M2 Max will be released in the fall.
At WWDC 2022, Apple introduced the M2 chip generation with updated MacBook Air and 13-inch MacBook Pro models, ushering in the influx of new hardware with the latest chip iteration. If a report is to be believed, more models could follow in just a few months. Loud In Mark Gurman's "Power On" newsletter, Apple has an aggressive internal schedule for the M2 Pro and M2 Max processors. Packaged in an updated 14-inch MacBook Pro and 16-inch MacBook Pro, they could arrive in the fall or at least early 2023. Gurman previously claimed in June that a MacBook Pro with the M2 Pro would launch alongside the Mac mini. At the time, however, he said the updates would arrive within the next year and didn't provide a more specific timeline.
MacBook Pro series: The design remains the same
A fall refresh could be available for the 14- and 16-inch models, but it would carry the risk of obsoleting existing M1 Pro and M1 Max-based models earlier than usual for Mac releases. Apple launched the first versions of Apple Silicon in fall 2021, so a fall 2022 update would correspond to a one-year cycle rather than the usual 1.5- or two-year cycle. Users shouldn't expect any major physical changes as part of the upgrade, as the design "will likely remain roughly the same." The 14- and 16-inch models already benefit from a notched display, additional ports, MagSafe, and other features, so they are unlikely to undergo a MacBook Air-like transformation.
