The YouTube channel Max Tech recently published a teardown video of the new MacBook Air, which offers a look inside the redesigned notebook.

Overall, the inside of the new MacBook Air is similar to the previous model. However, the thinner chassis allowed Apple to fit larger battery cells into the notebook. The new MacBook Air is equipped with a 52.6-watt-hour battery, compared to a 49.9-watt-hour battery in the previous model, according to Apple's specifications. However, the company says that both the 2020 and 2022 models of the MacBook Air achieve a battery life of up to 18 hours per charge.

MacBook Air with M2 chip: criticism of the basic model

The teardown shows the new MacBook Air's logic board, which houses the new M2 chip. As Apple confirmed last week, the teardown also shows that the 256GB model of the new MacBook Air only comes with a single NAND memory chip, resulting in SSD speeds that are 30% to 50% slower in benchmark tests compared to the higher capacity MacBook Air models and the previous model with 256GB storage. As usual, the new MacBook Air also has its storage and RAM chips soldered to the logic board, making it very difficult, if not impossible, to upgrade these components after purchase. Repair website iFixit will likely publish a more detailed teardown of the new MacBook Air soon - to the video. (Image: Apple)
