We have already read several rumors about a completely redesigned Mac mini. Now, however, it is claimed that the Mac mini with M2 chips could possibly appear in the old design.
In its latest edition of the “Power On” newsletter writes Mark Gurman says Apple is still working on the Mac mini, which will come with both M2 and M2 Pro options. Gurman says Apple was working on an M1 Pro version of the Mac mini that was supposed to launch late last year or late this year. As far as he knows, that's now off the table.
New Mac mini with more power in the old design
Instead, expect a refresh of the Mac mini that includes both M2 and M2 Pro options. I also don't think the Mac mini will get a major redesign anytime soon.
We've already read reports that the new Mac mini will feature multiple M2 options. However, the fact that the device will feature the older design is new. Regarding the various M2 chips, Gurman believes the Mac Studio could be a short-lived product, as he "doesn't see the point in having both a Mac Studio and a Mac Pro," as they can't be very similar and appeal to the same niche of users. As Bloomberg previously reported, a new M2 Pro and M2 Max MacBook Pro are expected this fall—though these computers could be delayed until early next year.
