There are currently plenty of rumors about iPhone and Co. - with the focus being on 2020. Now a report has been published that revives an old topic - the MacBook as a cellular version.

According to the latest rumor in iUniverse, Apple is planning to introduce a MacBook 5G model at the end of 2020 - at least that's what Digitimes claims. A topic that has been around for over 10 years. Back then it was an LTE MacBook, now it's supposed to be a 5G notebook from Apple. To date, however, nothing of the sort has been introduced. According to the rumor, the device is to be equipped with a special ceramic-based antenna - in order to be able to deliver better mobile phone performance. At the moment, Digitimes is alone with this claim - it should be said that Digitimes' reporting should be enjoyed with a healthy dose of skepticism. The platform's track record has increasingly declined in recent years - at least in the area of date announcements. Rumors that Apple is actually interested in such a device have been around again and again - but no one has been able to predict an exact launch date so far. However, it could also be a misinterpretation on the part of Digitimes - what is certain is that Apple is planning to launch the Introduction of 5G-capable iPhones next year – perhaps only these were meant.

Whether MacBook Pro or MacBook Air remains unclear

The report goes on to say that Apple wants to use a special ceramic material to improve the performance of the 5G antenna - so it will not be made of the usual materials known from other manufacturers. This will not only significantly increase reception but also transmission speed - according to Digitimes. The bottom line is that performance would be doubled compared to competing products - but this comes at a price. The version modified by Apple is said to be about six times as expensive as standard components. Since Apple is in a higher price category by default, the use of such components is generally possible. Digitimes could not find out whether the 5G-capable MacBook is a Pro or Air model. Only the market launch is already known - namely at the end of 2020. Apple AirPods with wireless charging case on special offer on Amazon – only for a limited time (Photo by Unsplash)
