Rumors of a foldable iPhone have been circulating for years, but Apple has not yet unveiled such a device. Now a new leak is causing a stir, allegedly revealing the exact specifications of the foldable iPhone. But how credible is this information? The report comes from social media and was published by an informant with a questionable track record. Nevertheless, it provides interesting insights into possible technical details, the design and a possible release date.

Apple traditionally keeps quiet when it comes to upcoming products. Nevertheless, rumors and leaks regularly appear that try to glimpse into the future of iPhone models. The topic of foldable smartphones in particular always causes speculation, as competitors such as Samsung and Huawei already have foldable devices on the market. The alleged specifications that have now been published sound impressive, but also raise some questions.

The alleged specifications of the foldable iPhone

The new information comes from a leaker named Jukanlosreve, formerly known as TechReve. He shared the information via social media, citing a source called “zwz”. Since this source is unverifiable, the credibility of the information should be viewed with caution.

size and display

According to the leak, the foldable iPhone will be the equivalent of two 6.1-inch iPhones folded together. When unfolded, this would result in a total size of over 12 inches. However, this calculation seems questionable, because realistically such a device would correspond to a screen diagonal of 7.5 inches - roughly the size of an iPad mini. The display will be manufactured exclusively by Samsung. That would be interesting, as there have been conflicting reports as to whether Apple has already decided on a display supplier. Apple is said to have worked with both Samsung and LG on a solution that minimizes the problem of creases in foldable displays.

thickness and design

The alleged foldable iPhone is said to be only 4.6 mm thin when unfolded and 9.2 mm when folded. That would be astonishing, because the current iPad Pro M4 is already one of the thinnest Apple devices at 5.1 mm. In addition, the iPhone Fold would be thinner than the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold, which is 5.6 mm. These figures therefore seem rather unrealistic.

hinge mechanism

The report speaks of a "large folding mechanism on the left back". This raises questions, as there have been various speculations about the design of a possible iPhone Fold. One theory says that Apple is developing a top-down design, similar to the Samsung Galaxy Flip. Another possibility would be a wrap-around design, more reminiscent of the Huawei Mate Xs 2. In fact, according to patents, Apple is working on various foldable display mechanisms and hinge solutions. However, it remains unclear whether Apple will opt for a side-folding device or a vertical folding variant.

battery and cameras

A particularly interesting point of the leak is the battery capacity. According to it, the foldable iPhone is said to have two batteries with stainless steel housings that offer a total capacity of 5000 mAh. The battery cells are said to be arranged in a 3D stacked design. However, there have already been reports that Apple and Samsung are having difficulties developing extremely thin batteries. The camera equipment is also said to be special. According to the leak, the front camera will work with the so-called Meta Lens technology, which is also expected for the iPhone 17. The main and ultra-wide-angle cameras are said to be made of a hybrid glass-plastic combination.

Possible release date

The leak mentions fall 2026 as a possible release date for the foldable iPhone. This would be consistent with previous reports, but there is also speculation that the device could be released in 2027. Additionally, it is claimed that Apple is working on a foldable iPad or a MacBook-like device in parallel that could be released in 2027 or 2028. These rumors are consistent with other reports about Apple's plans for foldable technology.

doubts about credibility

Despite the detailed information, the credibility of the leak remains questionable. The source "zwz" is unknown and has no verifiable track record. In addition, the report repeats a lot of information that was previously known from other leaks. Apple is known for keeping its products strictly secret. In the past, there have been leaks that later turned out to be false. Many of the specifications mentioned - especially the extreme thinness of the device and the screen size - seem unlikely.

Many open questions: Apple's strategy for foldable devices

The foldable iPhone remains an exciting topic, but the new information should be viewed with caution. While some details match previous reports, there are also many inconsistencies and questionable claims. If Apple does indeed develop a foldable iPhone, it will probably be several years before it hits the market. Until then, the question remains whether Apple will even enter the foldable device market or whether it will pursue a completely different strategy. (Photo by alexandrbognat / Bigstockphoto)
