Rumors about the iPhone 2020 have been around for several months. Now there are new details about the notch and 5G antenna. The Lightning port was also mentioned.
Apple leaker and concept artist Ben Geskin is known to have good contacts in Cupertino. In the past, he has been able to stand out with some leaks about upcoming products, which is why his reports are always followed with great interest. This time it is about the notch and 5G antenna in the iPhone 2020. According to Geskin, Apple is currently testing several prototypes. These are said to be different versions of the Face ID notch. Accordingly, the focus is on reducing the size of the iPhone notch. He writes on Twitter:
"Apple is testing a few Face ID prototypes with new optics, some smaller in width, others narrower to accommodate the top bezel."
If Geskin's information is correct, Apple is actually working on reducing the size of the notch for the first time. In an earlier report, the leaker wrote that Apple had already developed a prototype without a notch - read more hereIn addition to the smaller notch, Apple is reportedly planning to rework the new antenna. This is what it says on Twitter:
"2020 iPhone prototypes include wider antenna lines (>1mm) for 5G. Instead of plastic lines, a new material (glass, ceramic or sapphire) is used."
Bye Bye charging port
A third topic that Geskin commented on was the well-known Lightning connector. According to this, Apple is planning to remove the port. However, it will not be replaced by USB-C as expected. Ultimately, the goal is an iPhone without a charging port - which would then be charged exclusively wirelessly. However, it remains unclear whether this change will be implemented next year.
